Marana Youth Wins Saddle at Junior Rodeo Event
A Marana boy captured the All-Around Cowboy saddle at the Junior Rodeo, with Bill Clay Parsons of Marana winning the overall title. Payson youth Chuck Armstrong earned a 5 to 12 belt buckle, donated by his father, and the Mogollon Montoneros sponsored the two day event attracting nearly 600 spectators with cash prizes in each event.

Grand jury indicts 3 in Star Valley case
A county grand jury indicted Billy Hardt Ed Taylor and Richard Lollar all of Payson on felony obstructing justice charges in Star Valley following a July 14 fight. Hardt faces an additional assaulting a police officer count. all defendants set to plead in Superior Court Monday.

Forest fires near Camp Geronimo and Dealers Choice Road cabin blaze
A lightning sparked forest fire on the Mogollon Rim near Camp Geronimo south of Pine burned about 5 acres. Fire crews mopped up with hand tools, no retardants used, seven firefighters on scene, no injuries reported. In another incident, a summer cabin on Deal ers Choice Road east of Star Valley burned about 15 minutes after a lightning strike. Payson firefighters could not respond with equipment as the area lies outside the fire district, with losses around 5 000 dollars and no occupants present.

O Malley Development ties CU zoning to Payson approvals
