Mountain Bell announces plans to modernize Young communications starting 1977 with a transition from four party lines to two and four party service. The system will grow from 44 to 88 customers during construction and reach 400 lines after completion, with a dial system and local long distance improvements.
Howard Childers of Payson, a longtime area cattleman and former NB Ranch operator, is named pioneer stockman of Arizona by the Arizona Heritage Livestock Show in Phoenix on January 7. He joined the Arizona Living Stockman Hall of Fame and has held roles in law enforcement and local leadership.
Santa checked his list during a Thursday visit to a Payson Head Start Christmas party. He arrived by fire truck and surprised the children who received presents. They enjoyed an after lunch feast of punch and goodies.
The county invites bids on a 239000 addition to the Payson building at 109 W Main. The project will expand the sheriff offices courtroom and offices, funded by Four Corners Regional Commission and LAEA grants, creating about 32 temporary jobs.
