Payson hosts its 90th annual Rodeo with 278 entrants sharing a record 12680 dollars in prize money plus numerous trophies. Bill Hamilton of Kingman earned the largest payout 874.39 as all around cowboy, while Stan Sumner took 449.70 in bull riding.

Gila County Board Cuts Property Tax Rates
Due to higher assessed valuations the Gila County Board of Supervisors lowered property tax rates for Gila County Payson School District and Payson Sanitation District on Monday. The Payson Fire District rate was not set pending a state attorney general opinion. The state rate was doubled to $1.50 per $100 while local rates dropped to County 3.22 and School District 4.71 from 5.10.
