Forest Service delays mining hearings for Mazatzal project

A Forest Service spokesman said public hearings on the Mazatzal mineral exploration near Payson should wait until later. The 2,800 acre project is in early exploratory stages with about 95 comments mailed and 40 returned. If assays prove profitability, hearings would occur with an Environmental Impact Statement. otherwise the project could be dropped.

ADOT Hearing Tonight On Payson Highway 87 Improvements

The Arizona Department of Transportation holds a public hearing at the Payson Woman's Club at 7 30 p m to discuss widening Highway 87 to four lanes and other work from near the Highway 260 junction to Swiss Village. Estimated cost is 600 000 with possible spring construction. Public comments may be mailed to H M Osmus by May 5.

Open House At Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints will host an open house today and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at 913 S. Ponderosa. Tours every 10 minutes last about 45 minutes, showcasing a new addition with a chapel cultural hall kitchen Bishop's office and 15 teaching spaces. The church will be formally dedicated at a later date per Bishop Robert Welker.

Top scholars Sheree Wesson and Jim Ellis were named valedictorian and salutatorian by Principal L. E. Baker. Wesson earned multiple awards, held roles in cheer and pep groups, played in concert and stage bands, competed in track, served as co editor, and received several scholarships including an offer from Grand Canyon College where she plans to major in.

Budget request heard in Globe by commission

The Arizona state tax commission heard arguments in Globe from Gila County about exceeding its $12.21 million budget by 198,918 to cover health care, court, elections, benefits, services, auto licensing, law enforcement, and warrant interest. The hearing was chaired by Bob Kennedy and a decision will come in 7 to 10 days. The largest request was 119,372 for Gila General Hospital.

Road Closure In Payson For Three Weeks

The Town of Payson Street Department will close McLane Street just south of Main for three weeks to replace a damaged concrete apron in an estimated 1700 dollar project.
