A 1912 telegraph from Gerrit Fort of Omaha to D B Burley reveals Union Pacific and Oregon Short Line plans to hire H. Rubb, the leading authority in potato culture, for a year to guide growers, improve yields, and protect crops from disease across their networks. The note urges widespread publicity among potato growers.
A mammoth water proof palace plans a Payette show Friday night September 18 featuring Burk's Big Company Uncle Tom's Cabin with a metropolitan cast and vaudeville, plus Fred R. Mr and Mrs Geo Scott and children visited, as did Mrs W B Shimp and Max McCrenchen. Wm Wall rode to the McIntyre ranch for a few days and remarked on valley changes. Geo Scott took grain and hogs to Payette, hogs nearly causing a loss of grain. Plowing for fall crops visible along the alley. Martha Gordon will join Weiser pupils this year.
A competitive examination under the United States Civil Service Commission will be held at Calawell Idaho on September 14 or 15 for the position of Carrier in Canyon County. Applications on form 1341 and examination information may be secured from the Local Examining Board or the Eleventh U S Civil Service Districtin Seattle Washington.
Salt Lake Commercial Club leaders arrived by special train in Payette for a one hour visit to foster ties with Payette. John Helds band performed a concert, enjoyed by local business people and visitors. The Payette Fair plans, street fair preparations, and next week events dominated town talk with football, political candidate games, Twin Falls day, and a large schedule of family attractions.
