Idaho Canning Company Closes Its Most Productive Season

The Idaho Canning Company ends a record season with all products contracted and shipments planned. Genera L V Patch notes superior quality and strong demand while operations ran double shifts to meet goals. thirty five cars of peas and other fruits were processed and about 120 workers were employed at peak, with payrolls averaging $1500 weekly.

Obituary: Jacob Sloneker Civil War Vet Dies in Payette

Jacob Sloneker, born November 22, 1831 in Penn Five Points, died September 27 at his Payette home at age 89. A Civil War veteran, he enlisted October 10, 1861 in the 15th Iowa Infantry, reenlisted January 1, 1864, and served until discharge April 24, 1865. He fought in multiple battles including Shiloh, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, and Atlanta. He never married and joined the Church of Christ after the war, later at Fasstt. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon with the G A R at the grave.

Prune Crop Record Breaks Idaho History

The Idaho prune crop of 1312 sets a new state record with 278 car loads shipped from Payette Valley, including 191 car loads from Emmett district and 87 from the Payette area.
