City Council Closes Affairs and Plans New Audit

Last Sabbath many from Welser Boise Caldwell and nearby towns attended services for Captain Joseph H Shawhan in Payette. Rev George W Turner led a tribute praising his character and public spirit. Members of the G A R Women’s Relief Corps and Washoe Lodge conducted funeral rites at the church and cemetery. Shawhan born August 10 1838 in Rush County Indiana served in Iowa regiments during the Civil War and later settled in Payette where he cultivated a noted twenty acre pear orchard and led horticultural efforts. He leaves wife four sons and two daughters and was revered as a longtime Payette Valley leader and neighbor.

Payette Board Buys Payette Heights Site For New High School
Payette Board of Education closed a deal with N A Jacobsen to acquire seven acre tract on Payette Heights at the foot of Center Street and First Avenue North for a new high school. The site fronts 400 feet with 700 feet depth, level ground, room for terraces and an athletic field, with plans to beautify and later seek bonds for construction.

They discussed forming a highway district, organizing July Fourth celebrations, and scheduling another club smoker with committees appointed to handle fundraising and event setup.
