Titanic Tragedy Remembered Through Bremen Survivors

Alois Wessner Meinrad and Jo seph Henggler and Werner Klingler brothers from Switzerland arrived in Payette after crossing the Atlantic on the Bremen. They witnessed the Titanic disaster and described ice fields and lifeless bodies drifting in the Atlantic. A mother clinging to her two children amid the frozen sea became a poignant symbol of humanity amid horror.

Parable of the Two Eagles to Be Read by Local Pastor

The First Methodist Episcopal Church schedules a Sunday evening sermon at 8 on The Parable of the Two Eagles. The Mary Quartet will sing and morning service includes special music. An invitation extends to men without Sunday School to join a class. Epworth welcomes youths at 7.

Council Accepts Walker Plans for New City Hall

The city council, after reviewing two submitted plans, endorsed the building committee and awarded the drawing contract to J Ronald Walker. He will produce blueprints immediately, bids will be sought within two weeks, and construction is slated to begin within thirty days with priority on careful, rapid progress.

West Side School to Present An Evening of Student Music

A Friday program at West Side School features glee club songs and recitations by multiple grades to aid piano funding. The program starts at eight o'clock and includes solos duets and stories such as The Unhappy Pine Tree and A Million Little Raindrops. A separate notice mentions a detailed film about land ceremonies and the burial of a battleship at The Emma on Monday May 6.

Preaching at Crystal Bottom School House Next Tuesday

A short preaching service will be held at the Crystal Bottom school house next Tuesday evening the 7th inst at 8 o'clock. Rev. Henry Van Engelen will preach and everybody irrespective of belief is cordially invited.

Twilight ball league formed at Y M C A with four teams

A four team twilight baseball league was organized at the Y M C A last Friday. Officers elected include Tom Jones as President and James Edwards as Treasurer. Teams are the Scouts Presbyterians Baptists and Methodists. No professionals allowed and games run after six with nominal admission. Games on Payette Heights high school grounds run Mondays and Thursdays until July Fourth. Also a Republican caucus for West Payette Precinct set for May 4 from 2 to 7 PM to elect delegates for county and state conventions at Caldwell and Lewiston.

Christensen Defeats Warner In Fast City Wrestling Bout

At the Elite Opera House Fred Christensen defeated Ed Warner of Denver in two straight falls. The first bout lasted forty six minutes with a 1 1/2 Nelson and a bar hold. The second bout lasted seventeen minutes as Christensen used a toe hold to finish Warner.

Government scientists visit Payette to study apple storage

Bond sale signals healthy Payette finances

Payette issues a large 1000 bond issue to retire floating indebtedness. The issue dated April 1 and bearing 5.5 percent interest sold at par with accrued interest. William Sweet & Co. of Denver won the sale represented by Roland Lar men. About sixty bids were received, council praising Sweet & Co. as best bidder.

Young Snowberger Injured In Electric Pump Room Accident

Ernest Snowberger son of Mr and Mrs David Snowberger suffered severe burns and possible amputation after entering a high voltage transformer room at the Snow Meody project pumping station. He received an arc flash and was rushed to Woodward hospital where doctors performed emergency surgery and attempted resuscitation. A school group witnessed the incident and the authorities turned off the current.
