Mrs Turner dies after long illness March 18 1919 in Payette Idaho. Services held at Presbyterian church with fervent tributes from family and friends praising her missionary work international outlook and devotion to motherhood. The piece honors her ancestry and calls for homes that put God first to sustain the world.
In a letter from Fay Wells at Base Hospital 95 in France he reports a busy hospital with many new patients daily and many sent home. He anticipates a 30 day furlough to Paris with expenses paid and notes French food prices vs U S costs, beef stake one dollar per pound butter 1.70 per pound and potatoes ten dollars per sack.
Presbyterians urged to exceed the highest Christian standards and unite for world justice. A fellowship day scheduled with after service luncheon, field survey, and morale review, inviting all denominations and believers to join a League of Nation savers. Also notes Bible adoption as ideal English literature, and promotes Hardy spraying equipment advertisement.
L. E. Peterson, J. L. Thurston, D. Ainey and J. C. Thompson of Tennessee promote a new industry in the valley by forming the Iano Alfalfa Milling Company. They have filed for incorporation at 125000 and adopted by-laws. The venture aims to build an alfalfa meal factory to aid growers and feeders, improve yields, and supply hog feed efficiently. The exact site is not yet determined but the plant will operate in the valley area.
Farm Bureau outlines a two to three week excursion to compare local silos with state beef feeding practices. It notes a severe shortage of vacant houses in Payette, warns of orchard pests, and lists upcoming community activities including gopher control and church services.
W EB Parkins, injured last week assisting Mr Rupp, was taken to Ontario hospital and brought home Monday where he is improving nicely. Shadow Social hosted by Laties Aid society of the Baptist church last Friday night was well attended and enjoyed. Proceeds were a little over 340 00.
Clifford Baker, son of Nurse Shafer, recently in France for over fifteen months, arrived home Saturday morning. His brother Arthur Baker and Emmett’s wife joined the group as they traveled to Caldwell for the soldiers’ homecoming celebration. Mrs. Opal Nichols accompanied them. The party stayed for the big evening dance and returned to Payette Sunday. Clifford reports the across the line battles were fierce but the Kaiser remains unseen. the troops felt pride in defeating some of the enemy.
J L Wells traveled to Portland with three cars of fat textiles. Mrs James Stanton expects her Wisconsin born brother John Thistle this week. Clifford Baker attended the St Patrick dance in Caldwell, returning Tuesday. Miss Quella Taylor worked in the Western Union office after a trip via Los Angeles. Idaho Power shared a new Ford truck for business use as the old one wore out. Mr and Mrs Carl Korup and child visited Weiser. Radii in Payette County improve after wet spell, better with dragging. P Winm out two weeks with a knee carbuncle. G E Stone of Anita, Iowa visits sister Mrs H Gregory and ranch north of Payette. Mrs J M Bennett, bedfast two months from a fractured hip, improving. M P Lewis, US drainage engineer, spoke at New Plymouth on land reclamation. Christian Science group held a large gathering with four autos from Ontario. Mr and Mrs Leo Ballenger, Miss Margaret McPherson and Howard Snowberger visited Boise. Mrs Mary Wilson to Portland for two months. Basing home care by Bashed Kelly at Pence home. Mr and Mrs James Black of Baker, Oregon may move to Payette. Mr and Mrs Clyde Sims to Kansas City for Mr Sims to start business. Mrs Sims left for barber work at O K shop. Younts, hot weather and Vancouver trips noted. Farming under way with early seeding, good ground and pruning progress. Mrs G O Lowell of California visiting sister Mrs P C Winn. Dr Lowell, Payette veterinarian, is moving to Seattle. Nurse Shafer hosts baby bathing time, a playful, busy scene with toddlers.
Ettley Loughery and Ralph Farber join returning servicemen from France as others arrive home including Merril Greurb Perry and Mary. Weeeley Mom, known as Beny, Henry Shepherd, and a late Sick return are welcomed. D W Ainey leaves on business. W B Crandell found dead in Oakland. War Savings stamps director C W Giesler rehired. Local church event features State National workers.
The church reveals plans for a general forward movement across all services next Sunday with the Centenary theme prominent. A telegram from Columbus dated March 15th was received and efforts are made to confirm Sunday arrangements, involving Rev Wallis and Rex Hoejwarth to ensure timely notice. The pastor H. K. Wallace requests attendance and notes a forthcoming event on The Noe fare.
