Local Legion Post Plans Memorial Headstone Ceremony

An enthusiastic John Webster Rhoads Post meeting on February 5 approved erecting a 15 foot memorial at the intersection of Eighth street and Center avenue. A granite shaft with bronze inscription will honor a marching soldier. a grand Memorial Day unveiling is planned with expected visitors including state officials. Dr Hall of Merhadiat church will speak February 18 and Lincoln lecture February 11, inviting all ex-service members to attend.

Working His Way to the Shell Oil Co. Ben Harris Strives

Payette teams sweep high school basketball weekend

Payette boys defeated Weiser 19 to 12 with rapid bouncing passes and a strong defense, then beat New Plymouth 29 to 0 while Payette girls routed New Plymouth 23 to 6. Harold Cram reports on student arts and the Axe project as students troupe through the high school.

Producers Meet With Chamber of Commerce

Farmers attended a chamber of commerce meeting last Friday evening to discuss how the club might support farming. Speakers urged better farmer organization while the chamber offered help and invited all producers to meet and present issues for consideration. The chamber rooms and rest area remain open for farmers and visiting families.

Portia Valentine Ball Seeks Funds for Club Building

Portia club hosts a Valentine ball Tuesday evening at the pavilion to benefit the building fund. The event features Freyler's Dance Band Orchestra, warm fires, and arranged comfort for attendees. Wool buyer visits Payette and local club meeting

Pioneer wool buyer J. M. Johnson visited Payette to discuss wool prospects since 1888 amid a slow contracted season and hopes for a fair spring clip. The Business Women's Club meets at the chamber on Feb 12. Payette Fire and Ontario Fire departments shared a banquet and exchanged fire fighting ideas. Two baby boys arrived at the Blanchard home near Mayo Hospital with Mrs. Blanchard recovering from surgery.

Lather Luther Celebrates 91st Birthday At Payette Home

Lather A Luther of Payette celebrated his 91st birthday last Thursday with a surprise gathering at his First Avenue South home. The event, hosted by the G A R Post and W R C ladies, drew about 20 guests who enjoyed a campfire dinner. Luther, a Civil War veteran, and his wife have lived in Payette for 67 years, with a daughter Marion, recalling early sugar camp life and pioneer work in the New England states.

Entertain Ex-Service Men by Willow Grange Event

Willow Grange and the Women's Auxilliary to John Webster Rhoade's Post plan an entertainment and feed for ex service men of Payette County and their fathers on Monday at 7 30 in the chamber of commerce room.
