McGrevey Guilty in Attempted Murder After Office Scuffle

James McGrevey, involved in a drunken confrontation, pulled a gun on Hugh Kennedy during a scuffle at George Scott's livery barn. The weapon misfired. Kennedy pressed charges. McGrevey was bound over on assault with intent to murder, later pleaded guilty and received a sentence of one to fourteen years. The case recalls a prior 1908 shooting of Grant Whitney by McGrevey amid a hay-field dispute.

Western Fruit Rates Reduced by Interstate Commission

Press dispatches announce the Interstate Commerce Commission ruling that fruit and vegetable rates from Louisiana Texas Oregon Utah Idaho and California to Crawford Nebraska and other midwestern points are unreasonable. An average 20 percent cut will take effect Feb 1 for two years. apples from Payette to Missouri River points drop from 75¢ to 60¢ per hundred or 30 000 weight per car, lowering costs.

Dairy Trade Rumor Denied By Official

A false report circulated among dairymen claimed strict new examinations and regulations would drive many dairies out of business. Commissioner J H Wallis denied the rumor, saying only cleanliness of barns and wholesome feed and water are required. Veterinary examiners were suspected as the source, but butterfat output continues to rise monthly.
