Ox Team Pioneers Revisit Past as Couple Travels West

Mr and Mrs J C Berrang of Worcester Connecticut undertake a 6000 mile ox wagon trek to Medford Oregon. They travel via Washington and Baltimore with a radio, phonograph, pressure cooker and camera gear. Their six year old oxen pull a 1800 pound pair, wagon 3420 pounds, trailer 1130 pounds. They avoid modern roads, cover 10 to 13 miles daily, and plan to settle on a farm in Oregon after their long journey begun Oct 1 1920.

Visit by Milton couple to Payette elders

Mr and Mrs Wat Loyds of Milton Oregon visited Payette with Mrs Williams and Mrs Loyd sisters. The Loyds are early northwest pioneers who crossed the plains by ox team in 1862 from Iowa to Portland and then moved to Umatilla. Mr Loyd, now over 85, freighted supplies to Idaho City during the 1864 66 gold excitement. They left Payette Wednesday evening via Salt Lake for southern California to spend the winter.
