Death of Hiram Ogg in Center community
Hiram Ogg died at 3 o'clock Monday morning at his home in Center after a stroke. He was 82, born in 1835 as Deeth, and was surrounded by family. Funeral held by Rev. C He Surgwly of Fruitland, Idaho, with burial in Crown Point cemetery. He had long resided in Payette and moved to Long Valley two years ago. Sympathy extended to Mrs. Ogg and family. obituary to follow.

Minors barred from enlistment under 18 years by army order
The Adjt. Gen. issued a circular barring any applicant under 18 from enlistment unless proof of age is provided by birth certificate baptismal record school certificate or guardian affidavit. The note warns against misstatements that harm troops and the government. On the same day Walter Craig of Emmett was struck from behind by Lenn Russell near Ontario, pushing his car about one hundred feet. both vehicles damaged and in the Payette Modern Garage.

Farmers Refuse Red Cross Solicitors at Stanford Iowa
Three wealthy Stanford farmers declared they had money and could do as they please with it. Neighbors warned they were independent of the town. A meeting led to a public pledge to cut off all relations, and merchants, banks, garages, and the telephone exchange refused service to the trio, cutting them off entirely.

Settlers Picnic Planned for August 15 at New Plymouth

Jennie Has Hard Luck In Car Wreck Near Payette
Jennie Roney and Grace Pounds of Ontario were en route to Weiser when their car overturned beside the road near Payette. Both girls escaped with minor bruises while the vehicle was severely damaged. Pounds was taken home to Ontario. Roney continued to Payette where a tow truck retrieved the wreck. This follows a prior near fatal accident involving Roney on the Snake River embankment.
