A Payette drive schedules May 10 to 17 as a city wide clean-up and prevention campaign. Residents and clubs urged to clear rubbish, plant flowers, trim yards, paint porches, and rid dandelions. School and community groups organize gardens and community projects to beautify streets and reduce fire risk.
Ly Hoge, claiming grievance against street commissioner A. F. Rupp, allegedly attacked Mr. Rupp on the street. Hoge was arrested, charged with assault and battery, pled not guilty, and posted a $800 appearance bond. Frost damaged fruit. peaches and apricots hurt, apples blooms may survive. Then local classified items list milk for sale, livestock, and rental of a four room house near the train.
David Graham, born May 26, 1837 in Muncie Indiana, died April 19 1918 in Payette after influenza. He leaves wife Nancy Branham, four daughters Mrs C N Clemensen Mrs Edna McDonald Mrs I W Kenward and Mrs A F Taylor. twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral by Rev A K Wallis at the Methodist Church, Riverside Cemetery burial.
Farm Bureau Notes outlines growing mangel wurt uel beets as cow feed, noting mangels cost about $5 a ton to grow and fetch $8 a ton, with half an acre feeding six cows. It lists seed varieties, planting rates, and seed costs, plus upcoming events with Poultry Expert Luce, farm excursions, mass meeting with labor director, and garden seed guidance. It also mentions dairyman visits, thrift stamps, saving stamps, and Farm Bureau staffing for ranch help with wages and board.
Alma Elvira Jensen Shurtlett, born November 1872 in Malmo Sweden, died Friday April 19, 1918 at 10 25 am at home of Geo W Shurtlett. She married Geo W Shurtlett in 1885 in Logan Utah. Survived by husband four sons a daughter sister brothers and four mothers. Funeral at Christian Church Sunday at 2 30 pm conducted by Harvey Allred of Boise. Interment Riverside Cemetery.
The mayor proclaims a community clean up week urged by the Ladies of the Portia club to promote sanitation and beautification in Fayette. Residents should clear front and back yards, paint premises, remove breeding sites for pests, and help clear vacant lots with city support including extra workers.

On the first Sunday a car driven by Miss Roney fell 40 feet from a grade near Gids Ferry between Weiser and Huntington. The vehicle landed in the Snake River, but bystanders including Mr. and Mrs. Murray Martin and Mr. Martin helped rescue Miss Roney who was unconscious. She was taken to Ontario Hospital in critical condition with serious bruises but no broken bones. County Commissioner C W Geisler was in Caldwell on Tuesday.
Vernon and Gibbs Holt prepare for U S Army service after Kirksville and Payette. Gibbs to join the laboratory division at Leavenworth Kansas while Vernon heads for Camp Lewie near the end of the month. A wedding occurred at the parsonage with Louis Delino and Alle M Gode uniting in matrimony. The Utah quota lags in war bond sales and locals assist in training and support activities.
The Methodist Church lists Sunday School at 10 p m and Prayer Meeting at 7 30 p m with invitations from Pastor HB Wallis. A Union Creek of Christ service and Bible study sessions are noted with theme Drain or Die. The Post Office announces a delivery schedule change for Friday April 26 at 7 o clock p m with all carriers delivering mail city and rural.
