A Payette Idaho couple Mr and Mrs Collier and their daughter were travelers aboard the Titanic en route to make a home in Payette. News later confirms Mrs Collier and daughter Marjorie Collier survived aboard the Carpathia while husband Harvey Collier remains listed among incomplete survivors.
The Christian Church reports 207 in attendance last Sunday, the largest in school history. Loyal Women host Loyal Men Thursday at R. L. Maxfield’s home as interest in a new building grows after plaster fell from the north wall. The pastor will preach both morning and evening next Sunday and a large church seating 1000 is urged if needed.
About 20 friends gathered at Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Wood to surprise Ronald on his 18th birthday. The evening featured music games and refreshments with a birthday cake. Gifts included a brushes set and a gold watch from his parents. hosts were helped by Jennie Van Engelen and Velina Spaulding. Mrs Arno Jacobsen of Portland arrived for a 10 day visit. Public sale announced for April 20 1912 in Payette by C C Biffe offering fine household goods on easy terms.
The Portia Library Committee presented a lively vaudeville night with 16 acts including Dutch songs and bell ringing. Notables like Mrs. Mandeville and Mrs. Orr organized the program which raised about 70 dollars for library reference books.
Six weeks remain in the school term with report cards due this week after six weeks exams. Payette High played Welser in baseball at Welser, losing 5 to 4 despite leading late. Professors Hulme and Layman from the University of Idaho spoke at the school on college education and university opportunities. The Axe contest invites short stories by Payette students with prizes. entries range 300 to 800 words. New students Myrtle and Howard Reed joined the school. Nellie Keith, Grace Bowman involved in activities. several absences noted for illness and work. Senior reviews finished grammar. geography to be studied next with ethics lectures promised by Superintendent Turner. Several seniors will miss time. Ernest Snowberger leaves school to work. Juniors heard a talk from Mr. Hargrove. seniors plan a graduation play, A Middle Night, soon.
Portia Club members elected officers including Mrs Scritchfield as president and Mrs Garland as vice president. The club praises Rose Day activities with over a thousand rose bushes in city yards and promotes a temporary home for a public library. It plans fundraisers and a community vaudeville event at Elite Opera House to support library needs.
Morning services at 11 include the Sacrament of Our Lord's Supper using the new Intrude Al Communion Service for the first time. At 8 PM the I O O F from Payette visit and the pastor preaches with special music. calling cards printed locally.
Society items report a big dance at the Pavilion Rink next Saturday evening. Numerous residents from Payette and Welser travel for social events, skating, and gatherings. Lieutenant Wentworth Moss stationed in the Philippines arrived in Payette on Wednesday evening for a visit with his parents Mr and Mrs A B Moss. The dance at the rink last Saturday was a big success and noted in local news.
