Bridge widening under way over North Fork north of town

Preliminary work begins on a North Fork bridge project to widen the crossing. A detour is being built to handle traffic during construction. Reports suggest a single new bridge may replace the two existing crossings, one of which is narrow and has seen fatal accidents in previous years.

Holland Drilled In Producer Tuesday

A west side producer was drilled on the Geo. W. Simcox property by Kirk D. Holland of Chicago. The lease includes lots owned by Simcox and Allen Alexander with royalties shared. The well began Aug 3 and reached sand Aug 31 after using a spudder.

DuQuoin State Fair Opens Next Monday Labor Day

Labor Day marks the opening of the DuQuoin State Fair in Du Quoin Illinois with a record program. Harness and running horse races vaudeville acts a grand outdoor night show Edgar I Schooley Musical revue with 99 cast members and 12 acts daily. Mojonnier Starts Building New Dwelling in Patoka

P. J. Mojonnier a Patoka dairyman and First State Bank director began a two family dwelling on the west side of town. Excavation for basement is done with work near completion. The apartments are rented and ready for occupancy. This marks Patoka’s first new residence aimed at easing housing shortage and may lead to eleven more homes if demand continues.

Three W ell s Completed Monday All Dry

Three wells completed on Monday produced no oil. Sunflower Oil Company No 1 at Murf in on the south side was dry. The Searcher on Mrs Katie Nattier's lot in the business district was also dry. Staley Oil No 3 on O L Wadkins lot yielded only a gallon per hour. Mr and Mrs Merver Willett left for Villa Grove to teach next year. Francis Rogier and family of Decatur visited Patoka.

Twelve Pastors Get New Churches in Illinois Conference

The Illinois Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South concluded its 71st annual meeting at Odin with 12 pastor transfers across 22 of 88 churches. Bishop A. V. W. Darlington announced the moves, including Rev. W. S. Wright to Blairsville and Rev. J. L Walver to Keyston Girard, while Rev. Beaty was ordained an elder and amplified sermons drew large Patoka attendance.

Haley couple marks golden wedding anniversary

Mr and Mrs T F Haley celebrate fifty years of marriage in Ps tok a and remain residents near the home where they wed. Their daughters Irene Williams Tacoma Jessie Masten Chicago could not attend. Fifty-Fourth Wedding Anniversary Celebrated at Patoka

An elderly couple Mr and Mrs L P Hill celebrated their fifty four year wedding anniversary at home in Patoka last Sunday with relatives. They moved from central Illinois years ago and have become respected members of the community since retiring from farming east of town. Guests included Oscar Hill and family Mrs Jack Daniels Villa Grove Burle Warthman and family and Artie Rogier and family.

New Booster Station Opens to Improve Patoka Field Pressure

The Ili nois Pipe Line Co. has placed a new booster station in operation near the Ike Wadleer farm west of town to raise oil pressure from the Patoka field. Storage tanks are now emptied more satisfactorily after the upgrade, at a cost of several thousand dollars.
