Du Quoin State Fair Opens Labor Day 1937
The Fifteenth Du Quoin State Fair begins Labor Day September 6 1937 with an expanded night show by Edgra I Schooley and Zimdar Carnival. Auto racing replaces turf sports Saturday while horse racing runs daily with free Children’s Day Tuesday and a full slate of acts, bands, and exhibitions under the grandstand.

Infant James Roswell Arnold died August 16 after a brief illness at St Marys Hospital Centralia Illinois. He was born May 28 1987 to Paul Roswell and Myrtle Arnold and leaves parents two sisters Goldie Bayles Vivian Arnold and brothers Earl Dean Douglas Arnold with Marvin Dale Arnold deceased. Funeral services were held August 18 at Arnold Choate Church with Rev C J Piland officiating and burial in Sandy Branch cemetery.

Producers East of the Hard Road Drill Updates
Three producers operate east of the hard road with five drilling locations and another being erected. A producer is pumping on the Jeff Smith property. The Prank Relanea well was shot Wednesday and is a good one. The C N Cruse well reached the sand and Breiling started on the Geo Purcell property with more work planned on Eldoris Belcher and Perrine wells as future east side drillings proceed. The Milrim and Muffin wells near the Benoist depts set up for completion soon.
