Sunday marks the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie King Matheny of Clinton. The couple, natives of Fayette County, married Sept. 20, 1913 in Union City, Tennessee, and built a family with six daughters and two sons. Their son James died in Germany in 1949. twenty-two grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren are listed among relatives and attendees at the anniversary.

The American Legion Auxiliary met Oct. 8. Irene Padberg presided. Reports were read and approved. Seven members paid 1964 dues. A Fall District Convention at Centralia on Oct. 17 was announced. Plans to make tray favors for Veterans hospitals at the Nov. 7 meeting were set. Committees were listed for the coming year.

Education Meeting Friday October 11 Details
The Kaskaskia Valley Association of the Illinois Education Association will hold its annual meeting Friday Oct 11 at the Ainad Temple in East St Louis IL. There is no school Thursday Oct 10 marking the end of the first six weeks for high school students. Six weeks exams and junior high exams follow with grade cards issued Wednesday Oct 16. A parents meeting for beginning band students is Tuesday at 7 30 pm in the band room.

The Vernon Woman's Society of Christian Service met September 26 with President Mary Ballance leading. Ann Linder attended as the group sought guidance from devotions by Marjorie Bassett and a lesson titled The Church in the World. The session urged self-examination about loving others, church purpose, and the need for new vision while sharing refreshments at the end.
