No Effective Way To Kill Webworm Before Summer

W. P. Flint of the University of Illinois reports webworms are numerous this year and cannot be controlled effectively this fall. A single August 1 spray of seda arsenate, two pounds per 100 gallons, is the best curb. pruning, hand removal, or torch burning offer varying help for different tree sizes. Two broods erupt each summer, with the late brood poised for August control.

Obituary of Harrison Eagan

Harrison Eagan born January 30 1858 in Foster township died November 19 1935 at his home after failing health. He married Margaret Pearson on March 10 1912 and they had a son born May 12 1914 who died June 13 1914. Survived by wife two brothers one sister and many relatives. Funeral at Arnold Chapel with burial Holt Cemetery conducted by Revs Smith Piland and Lowe. Charles Humes and family of Centralia were Sunday guests.

Thanksgiving service at Christian Science Churches

A special Thanksgiving service was held Thursday November 28 at all Christian Science Churches with the theme THANKSGIVING. Scriptures urged thanksgiving and praise, citing Psalms 50 14 Psalms 100 2 4 and Science and Health references. Claude Walker and family moved Friday from a Patoka farm to the Wickersham property at Patoka east limits. Walker is a deputy rural mail carrier.

Patoka Resident Mr T B Walker Dies After Long Illness

Mr T B Walker longtime Patoka citizen dies at home on Tuesday morning after a lengthy illness. He engaged in community public activities for fifty years. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 PM at the Christian Church with burial in Patoka Cemetery. A full obituary will follow in the next issue.

George E Williams a prominent farmer died Monday at his Patoka area home. He lived there since childhood and was active in agriculture. The funeral was held at the Patoka M E Church South with Rev Ralph E Willis of Odin and Rev J M Smith officiating. Burial followed in Patoka cemetery.

Surprise Birthday Party for Grover Malan Held

Mr and Mrs Roy Malan held a surprise sixteenth birthday party for son Grover at their country home on Monday evening. Guests included Arlene Perrine Maurice Russell and Dick Potts. Entertainment featured a Put the Bean in a Jar race won by Anna Belcher and contests judged by H N Potts and Maurice Russell.

French Construction lands Kinmundy Patoka road award

Six bids were opened in the county clerk’s office for a Patoka Kinmundy road section. The contract went to French Construction Co of Fairfield, Illinois, with a bid of 28 740 80. Local readers recall the firm’s earlier work on the state road through Patoka, Route 2 now national highway 51.

Beverly Forehand born near Vernon Illinois May 1 1861 died November 21 1935 aged 74 years 6 months and 21 days. He married Anna L Thompson in 1883 and later Angeline Doty in 1893. Survived by children Cora Hanson Mary Delaney Rhoda Edith Blanche Parks Opal Patoka Tressie Barnes Clarence A and five more. twenty five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Townsend Delegates Appointed for Pension Plan District

Mrs. Joe Simcox was named one of five congressional district delegates to contact district congressmen about the Townsend Revolving Plan, or old age pension movement. Charles Casey of Breeze, district organizer, announced the appointment during a Patoka visit. The delegation will represent Centralia, Breeze, Patoka, and Rockmeyer and probe congressional attitudes amid rapid movement growth.
