Oil Field Drilling Progress Reports From Patoka Area

Operative update from Patoka oil field notes 8 wells in progress including Pugh Adams Louisana Co. reaching 1387 feet at Sam Pugh farm. Junk Yard well cased after 700 feet. Town Board Holds Two Meetings Since Election

The newly elected town board met twice after the April organization session. Mayor Beery led discussions on streets light plant and local government. A policy to reduce past due light plant accounts was adopted. Ira Caldwell was hired as night watchman. The four year term promises many challenges requiring citizen cooperation.

Armstrong Oil to Sink Deep Test Well in Bond County

Nelson L. Coombs of Armstrong Oil Co and W. H. Zilly of Chicago met Bond County officials to outline plans for a deep test well near Tamalco. Judge Biggs secured a 814 acre farm lease to start the block, with local landowners aiding land acquisition for a potential November startup and broader oil field development.

Well No 14 Patoka Oil Field Spudded May 5 in Vernon

The fourteenth well of the Patoka Oil Field spudded in Wednesday afternoon May 5 on the Harold Jolliff block in northeast Patoka. J W Alexander and B S Livesay of Patoka Oil Exchange secured the lease and promoted the well. A J Hausman of Vandalia and associates were given the lease by assignment. A B Hempen and Dr Burgess will drill the well. The lease covers 6 lots owned by Harold Jolliff of Vernon in Block 4 of the Messenger Add to Patoka. A Star machine will be used on the well.

Well Spudded Near Mulberry Grove in Bond County

A well was spudded Monday evening about 1 mile northwest of Mulberry Grove in Bond County. Leases were organized by J. B. Whitehead with help from Leslie Morey, formerly of Patoka. A standard rig will drill, aiming to reach the McClosky sand, as Whitehead, an experienced geology authority, guides the project.

Deep Well Test Progress at Ina Illinois

The Ina Illinois deep test well reached 2319 feet this week with the bit in shale. The site uses the largest drilling rig in the state powered by three 200 HP boilers and three miles of water piping. The 122 foot derrick and equipment suggest potential depths beyond the current contract.

Meryman Well No 4 Brings Oil After Tuesday Shot

Meryman Well No 4 at the Meryman farm north of town was shot Tuesday afternoon at 3 20 p m. The oil emission from the 66 ft derrick was substantial with heavier oil following the surge. commenced Monday April 19 by Taylor Drilling Co for Adams Louisana Co and Felmont Corp who own the lease. The second well by I W Taylor using a new rotary rig moved to the Patoka field. Next location will be on the Louie Davidson farm. A baseball field on the Meryman farm is used by workers who practice daily and Adams Louisana Co will enter a team in the local softball league.

Deep Test Well to Be Drilled at Woodlawn Illinois

Mr L L Benoist of Mt Vernon has completed arrangements to drill a deep test well at Woodlawn Illinois in Jefferson County. The derrick is among the largest with a height of 136 feet and heavy drilling gear will be moved in during the coming weeks. The start will come as soon as possible after setup delays.

Village of Patoka Notice on Electric Bills

All outstanding electric light bills due the Village of Patoka must be paid before the 1st day of June, 1937. If not paid, light and power will be discontinued and not resumed until all back dues are paid. By order of Village Board of Patoka.

Trip Enroute to Army Rifle Range Fatal to Three Officers

A patrol car carrying Paul Dean Outhouse and three fellow U S Army officers from Jefferson Barracks died in a crash near Fredericktown Missouri as they traveled to the Arcadia rifle range. Corporal Suga P F Snes Norm Katie aye Ulasna and Serpeane Ireasa were injured. Outhouse was killed. Services were held May 12 with full military honors in Patoka.

87 ft Derrick Erected for Cypress Oil Co

A new 87 foot derrick for Cypress Oil Co arrives from Texas to drill well No 1. Geo Simcox serves as secretary and Clayton Beery as vice president. The tower, tallest in Patoka field, rises near Claude Adams 26 acre site within the city limits. Erection began immediately with a top platform, three stem sections pull capability, steam power from fuel oil boilers, and a rotary drilling machine expected next week.

Two Wells Planned on Miller Land East of Here

J. W. Alexander owner of the Miller lease east and south of Patoka city limits completed two drilling contracts for the 820 acre tract. Drilling will begin once rigs are found and crews set up on the land.

Village of Patoka Sets Bill Pay Deadline for Electricity

Beginning June 1 1937 all users of electricity in Patoka must pay electric light and power bills before the 15th of the following month or have service cut off by order of the Village Board.

Pentecost Church Sunday School and Services Schedule

Pentecost Church lists Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and regular preaching service at 7:30 a.m. on Sundays led by Rev. Miller of Salem. A Wednesday prayer meeting is shown at 7:39 p.m. Attendance at Sunday School was 54 with a welcoming note for new attendees.
