Miss Sandra Schroeder selected as valedictorian at District 100 High School with Gene Bricker as salutatorian. Both honors reflect highest four year grade averages.
Leslie Anna and Rebecca Sue Talbot, daughters of Mr and Mrs C S Talbot, won a Cute Baby contest sponsored by a St Louis studio. The prize is a large brown tone portrait of the two. The article also notes a March 18 birthday party for Philip Meador with many local attendees and community notices of church activities, agricultural meetings, and farming tips.
All children are invited to the Sunbeam party at the Baptist Church Saturday March 19 at one o clock for officer elections and a Love roll call. After the story games follow and Miss Pearl Britt hosts a nibble nook. The April 2 meeting will install officers with Mrs Everett Perdue and Mrs John Barnes Sr hosting nibble.
258 pints collected last Friday beating a 175 pint goal while 25 donors were turned away for lack of bottles and 26 volunteers were rejected. 95 first time donors joined as Salem Bar Association praise from Judge James E. McMackin Jr. extends thanks.

Meetings with Meador of Wapella and Martin family. Forest Walker family Crewe Cover Illinois and others visited Leo Walker. Sunday visitors Hugh Jensen Shattuc and Gayle Belcher Centralia. Mrs Gerald Cox of Rialto California recovering from appendicitis. Rev Jenkins and Rev Charles MeHaney of Metropolis hosted by P J Mojonnier.
Patoka High School Girls Sextette entered the District Solo and Ensemble contest in Robinson Illinois on March 12. They sang By The Bend of the River and earned a second excellent rating. Members include Martha McWhirter Marie Black Janet Headley Judy Easley Jewell Cooley and Sue Wernsman. Mrs Rosalie Clark accompanied the group at piano.
Mr and Mrs Dean Sullens announce the arrival of a 5 pound 7 ounce baby girl named Theresa Jean on March 12 at Salem Memorial hospital. Grandparents are Merle Sullens Alma and Charles Jackson Patoka. Mr and Mrs James McNicol Jr announce a baby boy 8 pounds 8 ounces born March 11 at Fayette County hospital named Joseph Allen. Grandparents are Harold Atchison and Jim McNicol Sr Patoka.
The week’s meals list daily lunches for March 21 through 25. Menu items include Scalloped Potatoes with Ham and fruit on Monday, Meat Loaf with mashed potatoes on Tuesday, Hamburgers with baked beans on Wednesday, Italian Spaghetti with corn on Thursday, and Roast Pork with creamed peas and carrots on Friday. Each day includes sides, desserts, bread, and milk.
