Vote for 4 Year Community High School on June 28

A public vote will be held Saturday June 28 1947 from noon to 7 pm in Patoka West Foster Pope and East Fork townships to establish a four year community high school district. Backers cite eight million dollar assessed value and potential sixty thousand dollar annual revenue to fund a first rate school.

George Ballance dies at 86 after long life of public service

George Elias Ballance born May 22 1861 near Patoka died June 20 1947 at age 86. He married Mary E Gray then Mollie Cook and Emily Eaglin and had numerous children stepchildren and grandchildren. A farmer and merchant he served on the town board as justice of the peace and was active in the Methodist church. Funeral at the Patoka Methodist church with interment in Cruse cemetery.

Lyle Gray Dies in Milwaukee After Illness

Lyle Gray passed away in Milwaukee Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon June 26 after a several week illness at his mother's home Mrs Jessie Sergferd. He is survived by his father Ray Gray two grandmothers Mrs Ella Doty and Mrs Sarah Gray a son Ray and a grandson Lyle Joe Gray. The body will arrive here Saturday with funeral services planned for Sunday in Petoka, arrangements incomplete.

Mrs. Ray Outhouse to Return From Vacation Visit

Mrs. Ray Outhouse and daughter Kay travel home this Saturday after a months vacation with her parents Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Germany and family in Vernon Texas. Mr. Outhouse will meet them in St. Louis and accompany them to Patoka.

Five Voting Places Open For Community High School Vote

Voters may cast a ballot at any of five designated polling sites in the district this Saturday afternoon. Polls run 12:00 noon to 7:00 pm and voters choose yes or no on establishing a Community High School with an X in the affirmative or negative square.

Lessons covered Prejudice and Picture Hanging, with plans for Glove Making on June 25 at Schroeder’s and July 15 at Mrs. DeLay’s. C. Christian and J. Matchett will attend Outdoor Meals in Salem in August with 4 H Club guests and hoped achievement events.
