Barley as Feed Grain for 1954 Illinois Drouth Area
Barley will be an important feed grain in drought areas of Illinois, offering good value for cattle and swine with proper grinding. It can replace some corn in rations, but may cause bloat in cattle if used alone. Hog gains lag behind corn, though barley provides more digestible protein. Cooling hogs and shade aid summer gains. Could also save feed with good pastures and legume forage. 4-H fitness day planned for June 29.
