Community 4 H Club Regular Program Review

The Community 4 H club met Wednesday June 13 with a business session and demonstrations in cloth finishing sewing and undergarments. Edith Gray led discussions on clothes personality while Alice Murfin led standards of personal cleanliness and Claire Smith spoke on cloth moths control. Dorothy Logan demonstrated finishes for undergarments and Mabel Belcher gave textile buyer hints. The group practiced cutting and basting, tested sewing machines, reviewed score cards, sang Illinois and America verses, and played games led by Marie Cox and Alberta Berthoux. There are thirty two members meeting weekly on Wednesday afternoons until tasks are finished.

Monument to Be Unveiled for Pioneer Women at Vandalia

The Illinois Central Magazine reports a summer unveiling in Vandalia Illinois of an eighteen foot statue honoring pioneer women. Designed by August Leinbach of St Louis the sculpture is one of twelve regional tributes sponsored by the National Old Trails Road Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

District Chamber Conference Draws 500 In Effingham

C A Nattier J W Delassus F M Smith and Artie Rogier visited Effingham last Friday for the Illinois Chamber of Commerce District Conference. They praised the meeting as one of the greatest, with about 500 attendees. The group toured the Vulcan Last Company, a major local employer with 175 workers and a weekly payroll of 6000 dollars.

Local Dairy Records May Milk Totals and Payouts

For May, the local dairy station received 530007 pounds of milk. C V Bowen led with 10840 pounds sold for 165.59 dollars. Other top earners include Grasher, Yardley, Walker, Adams, Williams, and Mate in order, with total station payouts at 9955.88 dollars and 436.90 dollars in milk quality premiums.

Vernon Band Concert Program Readied for Friday Night

The Vernon band schedules a Friday night concert with marches overtures and selections. Officers capture two auto burglars in Vandalia chase

Officers Somerville and Sisson stopped two youths driving a Nash coupe from Detroit into Vandalia on Monday after officers said the pair appeared suspicious. The suspects Donald Campbell and Thomas Ryan confessed and gave the home state as Michigan. They await extradition to Michigan in Vandalia jail.

Centralia Township honors Darrel Caldwell with year book entry

Community Club Ice Cream Social At Griffin Home

The Community club hosted an ice cream social at Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Griffin residence on Monday night June 11.
