The note captures numerous weekend visitors and travelers to Fredonia and nearby areas including Peoria, Wilming ton, Norfolk, Decatur, and Chicago. It mentions Navy service transfers, family visits, funerals, weddings anniversaries, and Poppy Day proceeds totaling 78 dollars and 26 cents.
The Women’s Society of Christian Service met Thursday afternoon May 26 with Belva Lee Ehrat. Twelve members and three visitors were present. Officers elected for the coming year included President Emma Walton and Vice President Bee Doolen.
The Girls held their eighth annual reunion May 28 1955 in the basement of the local Methodist church. Twelve members attended a fried chicken and strawberry short cake dinner prepared by the Willing Workers Class. Absent members Georgia Settum Floss Livesay Fletcher and Clara Belcher Craig were missed. A brief business meeting followed and letters from Floss and Georgia were read.
The National Crow Shoot returns to Vandalia for its fourth straight year on June 17 18 19. Registration is on the 17th, singles on the 18th, doubles on the 19th with a business meeting Friday night. Saturday features a banquet and dance with Chaw Mank and his orchestra from Staunton. Sunday doubles conclude the event and trophies are awarded at the American Legion Home.
Report notes funds remaining from past collection. Decatur residents Mrs. Ollie Thompson and Mr. Glen Meryman spent the weekend with the Thompsons. Louie Padberg visited Rochelle Illinois over the holiday. Leo Chandler of Tonica spent the weekend with relatives.
After the Sunday service the First Baptist Church social honored Dick Davis who left Monday to join the Air Force. The W.M.S. presented a new Testament with Psalms as a gift. Sixty three members and friends attended and refreshments of doughnuts coffee and cocoa were served.
The Community Unit 100 School Band directed by Warren Besing will give its first summer concert at Patoka Park on Thursday evening June 9. An ice cream social by the Band Parents Club accompanies the event, with four June concerts planned at Patoka and Vernon parks, inviting all to attend.
Mrs. George Snider hosted the Pre-School Sunbeams at the Baptist Church on May 21 serving grape kolach and decorated cupcakes. Vacation Bible School plans continue with Africa study set for June 4 and all children invited.
