Illinois Winter Wheat and Rye Survey Finds Acreage Drop in 1939
The December 1 Illinois and Federal Agriculture survey reports 1,819,000 fall-sown wheat acres in Illinois, down 5 percent from 1,915,000 in 1938, with drought and late seeding blamed. Rye acreage is 118,000 acres, below 1938 levels, while U.S. winter wheat acreage totals 46,014,000 and rye 5,640,000, both reflecting lower yields and poor conditions in several regions.
