Second Well In The Patoka Field Reaches 600 Feet

Operations at the Meryman site in Patoka under W. B. White for Adams Louisiana Co progress as the second Patoka Field well hits 600 feet midweek. Two rigs are due Monday to accelerate opening, while a temporary road of cinders and slate is being built to support immediate rig movement despite rain damaged access.

Patoka Street Repairs Help From Cinders

Two carloads of cinders arrived in Patoka for street distribution as freezing and thawing plus rain have made roads difficult. Dual wheel trucks and tractors with logs damage streets, and only dry weather will restore normal conditions after these repairs.

Oil Men From Texas Visit Patoka Region

Chas. Kruse led a Texas oil group who flew to St. Louis and back by airplane. They traveled from the city to Patoka, arriving Monday, and will stay several days in this vicinity researching prospects.

Nichols well near Farina yields favorable geological reports

Geological department reports from Illinois indicate strong potential for a large oil basin in Marion County around the Nichols well. Eight sands between 1500 and 2700 feet are noted, with Omega Lime and Herrin Coal No 6 as markers, while drilling at 1500 feet shows formation alignment with prior estimates.

Carl Easton Farm Auction Nets $4782.40

The public auction at the Carl Easton home in Patoka netted 4782.40 from 153 head of livestock feed and farm machinery offered by Eugene Leniger and Kes singer. Sheriff Bryan Pitts bought a fine team for 457.00. A mule sold for 236.00 and a mare for 207.00. The first eight horses averaged 185.00. Easton bred high quality stock over years. The sale drew buyers from many parts of the state and was among the region’s largest and most successful.

Pinochle Party Hosted by Mrs Wilson Saturday Night

Vernon Miss Lora Wilson entertained friends at a pinochle party at her home Saturday night. Four tables were active with cards and refreshments of sandwiches pickles celery cheese bits and cakes were served. The next meeting will be with Junior West on February 20. Wiser Oil Company Declares Quarterly Dividend

The Wiser Oil Company declares a regular quarterly dividend of 25 cents a share payable April 1 to stockholders of record March 11. The firm holds several hundred acres under lease in the Patoka field and expects to have rigs in a few weeks to start operations.

Standard Rig To Be Used On Adams Well

A. E. Hempen and Al Burgess place tools on the Walter Adams lease in Patoka. Rig arrival begins Tuesday with erection in the village limits by Thursday morning. Drilling to start early next week as Tone acquires 11 acres for 850 dollars adjoining the site. Operations also planned on the Allison land leased by J. W. Alexander near Roy Ballance farm south of Patoka.

A large crowd gathered at the M. E. Church for a nationwide fellowship meeting. Mr. E. T. Robbins from the University of Illinois spoke at the Court House in Salem on Friday afternoon February 12 discussing sheep raising and good lamb production. He noted recent profits but winter losses of lambs and some ewes, urging proper feeding and management to reduce costs. he also discussed management of other livestock after the sheep topic.
