Marie Williams was elected F F A Sweetheart by secret ballot at the high school party on Friday February 10. Everett Smithson state F F A secretary treasurer crowned her and spoke on youth as tomorrow's leaders. The Sweetheart will host at the F F A banquet and attend contests and games to foster F F A and F H A cooperation.

Mr and Mrs Elston Pratt announce the birth of a son on Thursday February 9 at Fayette County hospital Vandalia. The newborn weighs 7 pounds 3 ounces and joins the family.

Rebekah Lodge No. 426 consolidates with Memento Lodge in Vandalia with Laura Woodruff of Peoria presiding. Sixteen local members attend, including J W Epps H R Laurence Mabel Snyder Cle dia Wilkenhauser Effie Hathaway and others.
Members at the high school elected Bill Jenkins president for 1956. James Ballance was re elected vice president. Robert Eagan was chosen secretary and treasurer. Directors named were Kenneth Tune Herb Jolliff and Junior Mullen.
The Patoka Christian church Christian Endeavor group meets Sunday at 6 45 pm for study and fellowship. This month they review the book of Acts and invite youths to attend 6 45 to 7 30 pm for Bible study prayer singing and social time. Officers include Jane Carter president Monte Page vice president Marie Williams secretary and Jimmie Britt reporter.
The Ladies Fancy Work Club gathered at Mrs. Eva Potts home in Vernon on Friday February 10 with Mrs Ethel Rogier and Mrs Rebecca Matchett in charge. Prizes were awarded to Eva Potts Elsie Gray Gladys Jiones and Eunice Walraven. Refreshments featured Valentine heart decorated trays and were served with help from Mrs Eunice Walraven and Mrs Winnie Spurgeon.
Dr. Erwin J. Busch a veterinarian will be out of town February 18 to 28 inclusive to attend the annual meeting of the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association leaving the practice in temporary charge of colleagues.
Victoria Chapter No 253 O E S met for a regular meeting in the Masonic hall on Monday Feb 13. Mrs Pearl Jennings was received into the order in an impressive initiation ceremony. Ruth Cruse and Ruth Alexander from Sandoval chapter led music. Ruth Murfin returned after a long absence from an auto accident. Guests came from Vandalia and Sandoval. After adjournment an hour of fellowship followed in the dining room with sandwiches potato chips pickles and coffee served.
Mr and Mrs Darrell Atchison are parents of a baby girl born Tuesday at 645 am in St Marys hospital Centralia. The infant weighs 5138 ozs. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Don Crawford and Mr and Mrs Harold Atchison.
A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Slick Walker on Wednesday February fifteenth at 3 15 a m at St Marys Hospital weighing nine pounds.
After selling his farm, the owner schedules a public auction at 11 a m on Thursday February 23 1956 ten miles south of Greenville Illinois on Rt 127 to Junction 143 then two miles west. The sale features 64 head of hogs a spotted sow seven pigs two litters a duroc gilt and 55 shoats 50 to 125 pounds. Poultry including 350 White Leghorn laying pullets in full production. Farm equipment includes Massey Harris tractors and implements Oliver tractors tools a combine hay equipment planters feeders and miscellaneous feed items with 1000 bushels barley and 1000 bushels oats. Patoka F F A will run a national rat and mouse control campaign February 18 to 25. Beryl Jett leads with Richard Fiscus Charles Thalman and Charles Murphy assisting. Contest offers 2000 in cash prizes and a citation plaque for outstanding effort. Local bait dealers and farmers will join with posters and baiting efforts using ready mixed warfarin cereal baits.
