On Monday February 12 Patoka teachers organized a surprise party for high school Professor E L DeLay at Miss Anna Belchers home. He arrived to find a full table and attending teachers including Mrs DeLay Mrs Potts and Mae Eagan. A book Van Lanes Geography was given as a gift. After dinner games like cootie were played with Mrs DeLay winning first prize and Mr Potts booby prize.

Christina Rebecca Jolliff, daughter of U S Jolliff, born near Patoka November 1 1962, died February 8 1938 at home southeast of Patoka at 32. Her life of faith included MH Church Island Chapel, four children Jo Anna Glen Dale Rosetta and a son Walter Lee who died in infancy. Survived by husband Joseph Yardley, three children, father U S Jolliff, siblings Harold Roscoe Claude and Etna. Funeral February 10 at home conducted by Rev J M Smith with burial in Patoka Cemetery.

The Woman's Missionary Society of the Methodist Church South met Wednesday afternoon in Patoka with Ina Anderson presiding. Ellen Simcox led as vice president and Lora Altom directed devotionals. Members heard a stewardship play by Simcox Knight Alexander Diveley Simcox, pledged cards, and planned a study class on The Sound of Trumpets.
