Supervisor C M Rogier details past actions and future plans for the Patoka Kinmundy road. He notes funding from Motor Fuel Tax Federal grants and state aid, along with local donations of right of way and county maintenance responsibilities.

Salem hosts booster meet to push SR 127A construction

A 125 member group from Clay Marion Fay ette Bond and Clinton counties gathered in Salem courthouse to back the planned SR 127A route from Pierron to Dundas. Local officials pledged support and a Springfield meeting was proposed to press the highway commission for state aid and right of way.

Fruit Growers Meeting Planned in Centralia

The tr county Horticultural School annual meeting will be held at Centralia City Hall on Feb 12 and 13. University horticulture leaders will attend and discuss programs. An evening session at Langenfeld Hotel features talks on fruit demand standards spraying and pest control followed by a banquet.

Marion County Farmers Attend Annual Meeting

Marion County delegates joined about 5000 attendees at the annual T A A meeting in Quincy over three days at end January. W L Cope ceded the district director post to Chester McCord of Newton Illinois after ten years, and Earl C Smith was reelected president while Talmadge DeFrees became vice president replacing A R Wright.

Poultry Meeting Planned at Court House in Marion County

Mr H H Alp Extension Specialist from the University of Illinois will meet poultry growers at the Court House in Marion County next Monday evening February 11 at 7 30. All poultrymen invited and county Farm Bureau directs Farm Adviser Blackburn to focus on Poultry as a major project this year. Better poultry prospects depend on sanitation and feeding methods. Cooperation expected to attract more time from Mr Alp and several county poultrymen to participate.

Patoka High School first and second teams win double victory

Patoka High School defeated Mulberry Grove firsts 43 to 30 and seconds 18 to 14. Leon Hart joined midyear and led with 15 points while Douthitt added 13. Wells paced Mulberry Grove with 9 before fouling out. Strong defense credited to Britt Kleysteuber Ballance. team shows improvement and invites fans to watch future games.

Pentecost Church Revival Set To Begin Next Sunday

A revival meeting at Pentecost Church will start Sunday night February 10 with Rev. Davis of Mt Vernon leading services. Special singing is planned and the goal is spiritual renewal and souls saved, inviting nearby churches to cooperate. Funeral Held In Keyesport For 15-Year-Old Jack Brandon

Rev S L Speer conducted the funeral in Keyesport for Jack Brandon a 15 year old boy who died from injuries after an accident on December 1 when boys built a bonfire near a burned school site and an apparently empty gasoline tank exploded He was taken to Breese Hospital where he died after the fire incident.

Walter Parks Takes Civil Service Exam for Marketing

Walter L. Parks of Centralia formerly of Patoka recently sat the U S civil service examination for marketing specialists. The two parts covered dairy products and fruits and vegetables with Walter taking the latter. The Patoka Register extends best wishes for his success.

Rural Rehabilitation Program Inaugurated In Marion County

The Illinois Emergency Relief Commission launches a rural rehabilitation program in Marion County under supervisor Charles T. McLaughlin. The plan aids destitute rural families through repayable loans and loans only, with district case workers accepting applications.

County Elections: Supervisors’ Terms Deadline Set

County Clerk Oscar L Hawkins announced a list of supervisors whose terms expire in spring. Millard Rogier of Patoka township appears on the retirement list and will leave office on April second. Twelve supervisors will retire while eleven will continue in office.

Patoka Girl Receiv ves Appointment

Miss Mabel Belcher is named county director of vocal and piano music under a state project to promote county training. Rev Kerwin Heffey, pastor of the M E Church South in Salem, is appointed county director of band and orchestra music visiting Patoka to support the effort. Plans call for free instruction countywide under these instructors and county superintendent Paul B Chance with later announcements on time and place for eligible residents. It is likely the local gymnasium will host the classes.

The Girls Senior Class of the Christian Sunday School met at Mary Alice Field's home on Wednesday night January 80 at 7 p.m. with mothers as guests.
