Lions Club Drive Raises 196.18 for March of Dimes

Patoka Lions Club members collected 196.18 last Thursday in snow for the March of Dimes. Chairman Harvey Munger reported last year’s drive raised 157.23, with extra funds from P T C, a pinochele party, store canisters, and American LegionAuxiliary contributions, totaling over 500 the prior year.

Miss Sarah Le Simcox Graduates as Minister

Miss Sarah Le Simcox former Patoka resident graduates from Waltchtower Bible School of Gilead in South Lansing New York during a two day program February 2 and 3. She completed advanced training for full time ministry with Jehovah's Witnesses and joins 106 students from 21 countries.

Terry Binnion transfers to Pan-American College in Edinburg

Terry Binnion leaves Tuesday evening for Edinburg Texas to enroll at Pan-American College. He follows Clifford Christian of Patoka who is already a student there and Miss Helen Blackburn a former Patoka unit teacher now at the new college. The coach spoke by phone over the weekend urging Terry to join the basketball and baseball teams. He travels with his parents Mr and Mrs J C Binniton and grandmother Mrs Bertha Binnion.

Victoria Chapter Improves Masonic Temple Facilities

Victoria Chapter held its regular meeting on January 28 and voted unanimously to cover all other expenses for redecorating the Masonic Temple. The committee reported favorable progress on adding modern conveniences and fixtures while Eastern Star members praised Masonic brothers for cooperation. A venison dinner is planned to support the project. initiation is announced for February 11 and practice February 9.

Mrs Eldon Branch Named Home Bureau Director at State Meet

Mrs Eldon Branch was installed director of the Southeastern District of Illinois Home Bureau at the January 29 Urbana meeting during Farmed Home Week. The two year term covers 15 counties. she succeeds Mrs John Russell of Effingham. Branch, known as Marie, has 15 years of Home Bureau service and leadership roles in Marion County including county president 1946-48 and 1955-56, unit chairmanships, and county committees. She farms grain and livestock in Tonti township with her husband and two sons and a daughter.

Sunbeams Meet at Baptist Church with Bible Readings

The Sunbeams gathered Saturday afternoon at the Baptist Church. President Marianne Griffin led roll call with Rebecca Talbot, each member reciting a Bible verse. Special prayer was offered for Blake Griffin's grandfather. Refreshments were served by Mr Mojonnier. Next meeting is February 16. all children invited.

Postmaster John V. Barnes announced that February donations for health campaigns should be mailed care of the local postmaster and forwarded to the state health agency. Fancy Work Club Meets With Mrs Spurgeon
