Patoka Lions Club members collected 196.18 last Thursday in snow for the March of Dimes. Chairman Harvey Munger reported last year’s drive raised 157.23, with extra funds from P T C, a pinochele party, store canisters, and American LegionAuxiliary contributions, totaling over 500 the prior year.
Miss Sarah Le Simcox former Patoka resident graduates from Waltchtower Bible School of Gilead in South Lansing New York during a two day program February 2 and 3. She completed advanced training for full time ministry with Jehovah's Witnesses and joins 106 students from 21 countries.
Terry Binnion leaves Tuesday evening for Edinburg Texas to enroll at Pan-American College. He follows Clifford Christian of Patoka who is already a student there and Miss Helen Blackburn a former Patoka unit teacher now at the new college. The coach spoke by phone over the weekend urging Terry to join the basketball and baseball teams. He travels with his parents Mr and Mrs J C Binniton and grandmother Mrs Bertha Binnion.
Victoria Chapter held its regular meeting on January 28 and voted unanimously to cover all other expenses for redecorating the Masonic Temple. The committee reported favorable progress on adding modern conveniences and fixtures while Eastern Star members praised Masonic brothers for cooperation. A venison dinner is planned to support the project. initiation is announced for February 11 and practice February 9.
The Music Committee of the Methodist Church holds a bake sale Saturday starting at 10 a m in the church basement. Proceeds go toward a new piano for the church.

Supervisor Harold Snyder of Carrigan township announces a Civil Defense meeting at the Carrigan town hall on Thursday February 14 at 7 30 p m. John C. Bigelow Sr director Marion County Civil Defense says the meetings aim to identify farmer and wife interests in Civil Defense activities. All are invited to attend.
The Joy Class of the Baptist Church met January 24 at the home of Mrs. Carl Rogier. Eight members attended with devotions by Gilidie Sparks and Loretta Genve conducting business. The February project focuses on anklets for children at the Carmi Baptist Flame.
Mrs Eldon Branch was installed director of the Southeastern District of Illinois Home Bureau at the January 29 Urbana meeting during Farmed Home Week. The two year term covers 15 counties. she succeeds Mrs John Russell of Effingham. Branch, known as Marie, has 15 years of Home Bureau service and leadership roles in Marion County including county president 1946-48 and 1955-56, unit chairmanships, and county committees. She farms grain and livestock in Tonti township with her husband and two sons and a daughter.
Lee H. Peyton and family of Tripolis visited over the weekend with his mother Edith Peyton. Mr and Mrs Mason Barsett were Sunday dinner guests. Mr and Mrs B F Beck and Mr and Mrs J R Revis were dinner guests Saturday at Dale Revis home Vandalia for granddaughter Joyce birthday.
Sunday dinner guests included Mr and Mrs Edwin Nattier and daughter Kathryn and Rev and Mrs Foulon. Several residents, including John Chance and Henry Brumfield, were treated at St Marys hospital or have returned home from Mobile Alabama and hospital care. Mrs Anna Davidson turns 90 with daughter Helen Pierce and relatives hosting a birthday dinner.
The FHA held a candle light and emblem initiation last Thursday for freshmen and contributing members. A Sweetheart party is planned for Feb 8 with a chapter sweetheart crowned, and Daddy-Dane Night on Feb 18 inviting all fathers.
Several vehicle loads of Victoria Chapter members traveled to an East ern Star initiation at Sandoval on Monday evening. Attending were Mes James, Rubye Griffin, Rita Hill, Winnie Spurgeon, Pearl Jennings, Betty Griffin, Ruth Murfin, Kathryn Jonstone, Freda Meador, Mary Merryman and Cleo Walker.
The Sunbeams gathered Saturday afternoon at the Baptist Church. President Marianne Griffin led roll call with Rebecca Talbot, each member reciting a Bible verse. Special prayer was offered for Blake Griffin's grandfather. Refreshments were served by Mr Mojonnier. Next meeting is February 16. all children invited.
Postmaster John V. Barnes announced that February donations for health campaigns should be mailed care of the local postmaster and forwarded to the state health agency. Fund administrators include the American Cancer Fund American Heart Association Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation Muscular Dystrophy of America National Multiple Sclerosis Society National Society for Crippled Children and Adults United Cerebral Palsy Association.
The Fancy Work Club gathered at Winnie Spurgeon's home on Friday. The president opened the meeting, members sewed and played games with Anna Hioani and Charlotte Isaac assisting. Prizes went to Ehel Rogier and Fwva Potts. A luncheon was served. The March meeting will be at Bunice Walraven's home.
The message expresses gratitude to all who sent cards flowers and visits during his hospital stay and after returning home. May God bless each and everyone.
Patoka tipped Odin 58 56 in a late lead change as Murfin 14 Britt 11 Rutledge 11 and Perkins 10 led Warriors scoring. Full court press helped Patoka while Odin star Risinger fouled out in the final period. B team won 58 38 for Patoka.

Wednesday chili with crackers sandwich fruity cookie and milk. Thursday hamburger on bun whole kernel corn pickles Jello with fruit chocolate cake milk. Friday turkey and dressing mashed potatoes cranberry sauce Dixie cup cookie bread butter milk.
The famous Aunt Jemima will serve panicakes at Martin's IGA store next Saturday February 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. announced by C. D. Martin. The public is urged to attend this special event.
