Federal Farm Board Seeds $100 Million for Wheat Marketing

The Farm Board announced $100 million is placed at the Farmers' National Grain Corporation to aid farmers in stabilizing wheat prices. It plans loans to legally justified wheat cooperatives, with prices set per bushel and loans carried through the marketing season. The Chicago based entity will also oversee stabilization efforts for other grains.

Marion County Rural Letter Carriers Meet Honors Patoka Guests

The regular Marion County meeting drew many carriers and wives to the Patoka group at the local gym. State President J. E. Cooper spoke and was well received. A luncheon followed with sandwiches doughnuts and coffee and games. The next gathering is planned for Osdios Saturday night.

Lum Ballard Home Destroyed by Early Morning Fire

Fire completely destroyed the Lum Ballard residence early Thursday morning. The family awoke around 4 a.m. as the structure burned, leaving little for them to salvage. They had partial insurance, and friends express sympathy during this time of year.

Egyptian Conference Schools Hold Meeting Here

Representatives of the Egyptian Conference met at Patoka High School gym last Saturday with many school heads and coaches in attendance. Leaders discussed membership, including Mulberry Grove’s formal request and Vandalia’s intention to withdraw after the year, and finalized an eight town schedule.

Well Known Man Charles Bassett Killed Near Peoria

Charles Bassett, son of Mr and Mrs Lafe Bassett, was killed in a car accident while returning from Chicago on a slippery road. His funeral was held at Kinmundy M E Church with Rev J M Smith officiating and burial in Kinmundy cemetery. Roy Jones and family attended the service. His wife, living in St Louis, was informed via papers found on his person.

Former Homer Resident Wm G Eaglin Dies in Danville

News from Homer reports the death of William G Eaglin born Patoka July 13 1885. He died in St Elizabeth Hospital after a brief illness caused by blood poisoning following removal from his Homer Rural Route 3 home. Funeral was held at M B E Church with Rev Eisin officiating and burial in Homer Cemetery. He was a member of Homer K of P lodge.

Mrs Floyd Eaglin Dies After Illness in Urbana

Mrs Floyd Eaglin died Saturday after months of dropsy illness at Urbana hospital. Funeral Sunday at 3:30 pm from the Methodist church with Pastor L Elson officiating. Burial at G A R.
