Christmas Visitors Bring News Across Bear Creek Region

Christmas visits filled homes in Bear Creek and White Haven as families hosted relatives from Beloit Wisconsin St Louis Peoria Vandalia and Vernon. Local residents included the Caudles Payne R Brummer and Christies with gatherings at Reynolds Lake and Ducharme homes. Several relatives were noted as traveling or staying for holidays.

Donna Bopp Weds Dale Towler in West Memphis

Donna Bopp daughter of Harry Bopp of Sandoval and Dale Towler son of Albert and Mrs. Towler of Patoka were married December 18 at the Church of Christ parsonage in West Memphis Arkansas. The double ring ceremony was conducted by Rev. Milton D Truex. The couple will reside in Centralia.

Christmas Programs Highlight Patoka Churches

Christmas in Patoka churches drew large crowds with events at the Pentecostal, Christian, Baptist, and Methodist churches. The Pentecostal service emphasized the Spirit of the Christ Child, the Christian church held a well attended program with a tree and gifts for children, the Baptist Christmas Eve tree and program drew a happy crowd, and the Methodist event on December 24 filled the annex with a mixed youth program followed by candy and oranges for all.

Mrs. Rachel Chausse 73 Dies Near Sandoval

Mrs. Rachel Meredith Chausse, 73, died at her home north of Sandoval Friday December 24 after a months long illness. She leaves husband and five daughters Grace Gladys Jean Blanche Frances and son Fred. Funeral services were conducted December 26 at Cox & Martin Funeral Home Sandoval with Rev. Fairchild officiating. Interment followed at Patoka Cemetery.

Good Will Club Meets With Mary Kottemeyer

The Good Will Club gathered December 15 with thirteen members and six visitors. After prayer and dinner hosted by Mary Kottemeyer and Lottie Belcher, birthdays were celebrated with two big rice cakes for Emma Protz Nell Doolen Alice Wilson and Ruth White. The group quilted and prepared rags then distributed Christmas presents. The W L S fund stood at $6.50. Next meeting with Olga Kleeman is January 5. Nellie Perkins, Secretary.

Fire at Adams Company Office Sunday Morning

Early Sunday the Patoka Volunteer Fire Department responded to a blaze at the Adams Company office just north of town. The fire started from ignited spilled oil and was quickly extinguished with minor damage reported.

Funeral services for Guy Chandler December 20

Guy Chandler a well known farmer east of Patoka died December 17 in St Marys hospital Centralia after a short illness. He was born January 22 1893 in Foster Oat and lived his life in the community. He married Mary Whi in 1913 and they had eight children. Survivors include his wife five sons two daughters two sisters and two step sisters. Funeral services were held at Zion Methodist Church at 2 00 p m Monday December 20 with Rev Clifton of Central City officiating. Interment followed in Jones cemetery.
