Jail Four Following Fight in Sandoval Monday Night

In Sandoval on Monday night December 25, four men were jailed in Salem after a fight at D and M Tavern and a cafe brawl with Dixcel owner Kerwin Fish. Fish received seven stitches after striking Dave Spitler, while Spitler and others faced charges as officers transported them to jail. Fish was hospitalized in Centralia for head and neck injuries.

Miss Flora May Cox 65 Dies in Champaign

Flora May Cox 65 died at 12 30 p m Wednesday December 27 in Burham hospital Champaign Illinois. She was born January 14 1885 in Vernon Illinois daughter of Mark and Mary Cox. Survived by sister Myrtle Sprinkle Salem Ill and brothers J A Cox Grand Junction Colo T R Cox Decatur and F L Cox Vernon. Funeral at Vernon Methodist Church December 29 at 130 p m with burial in Tillman Cemetery.

Laws Return Home After Visit to Hope dale

Mr and Mrs Herbert Laws returned Saturday from Hope dale Illinois where they visited daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs Cecil Robison. Mrs Robison has been ill for a month but is improving. Mr and Mrs Dean Laws of Centralia visited the Laws Sunday afternoon. The Eagan Food Market building is being improved with a celotex interior decorating.

Vernon Women's Society Annual Christmas Party

The Vernon Methodist Church Women’s Society held its annual Christmas party in the church basement on Thursday afternoon December 21. Sixteen members and three guests attended. Mrs. Bertha Andbury Mrs. Marvin Bhraf and Mrs. Leslie Payne joined as new members. Ruth Lawson led a program including carols, a Christmas story, poems and a song. Refreshments and gifts followed with hostesses Bee Doolen Francis Headley and Flora Dickey.

Marion County Rural Youth Christmas Party at Purdue Home

The Marion County Rural Youth met at Mr. and Mrs. Bob Purdue's home on December 20 for their annual Christmas party. About 30 attendees including Rex Rhea and Elizabeth Burton joined in relays games stunts and carol singing with a group gift exchange. The couple received a gift from the youth and refreshments were served.

Local families gather for Christmas visits in Centralia

Mr and Mrs Ed Nattier and daughter and Mr and Mrs P J Mojonnier visited Christmas day with Mr and Mrs Charles Humes in Centralia. Willard Lawrence remains in critical condition after a second stroke and his sons plan to bring him home to Ohio. Mr and Mrs Bill Eagan and Charlene of Centralia along with Mr and Mrs Burl Linton and son of Kinmundy visited Mr and Mrs Robert Eagan and Gloria Sunday. Mrs Bruce Pugh returned to Memorial hospital after double pneumonia.
