Vernon Better Neighbors Club Christmas Party and Activities

The Vernon Better Neighbors Club met December 13 at Cledia Wikenhauser’s home with sixteen members present and two guests. Officers elected for the new year were Opal Jones president, Margaret Lawrence vice president, and Alice Wilson secretary treasurer. Other notes cover birthday events, sports results, visits, church activities, and a Santa visit organized by the Patoka Volunteer Fire Department with a program at the Patoka Grade School gymnasium on December 23.

The American Legion Auxiliary held its annual Christmas party at the Legion Home with a decorated tree and Mystery Pal gifts. A short meeting approved new members and cookies were sent to hospitalized veterans Dale Bilis and Addis Walton.

Patoka Boy Scouts Gather for Rummage Sale Ceiling Fund

Local Boy Scouts under Harold Foltz and Wes Griffin start a rummage collection to raise money for a new ceiling in the Light Plant Building serving as their headquarters. They urge residents to donate usable items now. the sale planned for January will be held in the light plant building once ample donations are gathered.

Methodist Junior Sled Ride Ends With Warm Christmas Parties

On December 12, Mr and Mrs Darvin Jones led the Methodist Sunday School Junior Boys and Girls sleigh ride. The two sleighs got stuck in the snow and the gas ran out before the ride ended. After warming by fires at Patsy Mullens and John Ballance homes, the group enjoyed games and a lively gift exchange sponsored by Mr and Mrs Don Griffin and Mr and Mrs Darvin Jones.

Sunbeams Meet at Baptist Church December 16

James Allen and Marion Thomas hosted the Sunbeams at the Baptist Church on Saturday December 16. Jody Carter led the Roll and Psalm 23 was sung. Refreshments included iced grape juice cookies and Santa Claus candy bars. Attendees listed include Jody Carter Carolyn Snider Nancy Snider Valda Jones Sue Eastman Roy Eastman William Ballance Don Nature Marl Thompson and Mrs Mojonnier. The next meeting is January 6 at Mrs Mojonnier's home.

Mrs Ellis Breaks Arm After Fall on Icy Walk

Mrs William Ellis sustained a left arm fracture above the wrist after slipping on an icy sidewalk while enroute to their business. She was taken to Centralia for treatment and later returned home. her husband reports she is doing well.

The Island Chapel W.S.C.S. met Thursday December 14 for its annual Christmas party. Thirteen members and four children attended. several were absent due to illness. President Helen Carter presided. Mattie Tune gave the devotion and story Jesus Born In The Manger. Silent Night was sung. New officers were elected in November for the coming year.
