Funeral notices honor Elton Jones born 1895 near Arnold Chapel. He married Miss Painter in 1926 and served in World War I in France. He died November 24 1935 in Sacramento at age 38. Services held at 601 Gym Vernon with burial in Tillman cemetery. He left a wife Elizabeth, a son, siblings and many friends.
University of Illinois agricultural economist R H Wilcox notes feed grain supplies are at their lowest in 30 years and per-animal feed is scarce. He recommends a cropping mix prioritizing alfalfa hay corn for cultivation winter wheat and mixed legumes to balance concentrates and roughage for cattle and hogs. Soybeans offered as grain or hay can reduce costs if concentrates rise.
Mr and Mrs T F Meredith of Patoka area marked their 39th wedding anniversary at the Register Office on a recent Saturday. The couple, noted locally, have faced health challenges but remain hopeful and plan to celebrate many more years together.

Dec 5 1933 State Treasurer John C Martin announced that the Illinois Central Railroad paid the state 81159098 for the period ending Oct 31 up from 68248439 six months earlier The increase of 12910659 indicates rising railroad revenue and supports the administration recovery program’s impact.
Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Hamilton with Mrs. Lizzie Gray Ed Wadkins and Mrs. Charles Purvis traveled to Bridgeport Illinois for a Sunday dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Smith Dalrymple. Mrs. Gray stayed days more visiting Odin and with Purvis and daughter Helen of St Louis. Doris Dalrymple sang on Evansville Indiana radio last Saturday.
A Vernon turkey dinner hosted by Mr and Mrs W J Jones last Sunday drew Mr and Mrs Wes Martin Dean Martin Mr and Mrs Roy Jones and son Darvin of Patoka and Mr and Mrs C L Jones of Hallsville. The couple celebrated their sixty third wedding anniversary last September and are in good health.
Alvin Belcher visited Centralia on Monday afternoon during a routine visit to the town. Local witnesses confirm the brief stop occurred in the downtown area.
J. E. Whoopee McMackin of the State Treasurer's office in Springfield motored to Chicago Thanksgiving Day to transport Wm. Hayes of near Tonti to a Chicago hospital for treatment. Hayes has been afflicted for some time.
Fayette and Marion county Democratic committee members with spouses held a social gathering at Vandalia State Farm. Superintendent Geo. Ray led the event with quail dinner and entertainment by a local orchestra and several singers. State officials and county leaders attended, sharing introductions and a relaxed program to foster cooperative times.
Carroll Garrett and Dorothy McNichol were married in Salem on Saturday November 25. The couple’s sisters Cleda Garrett and Mildred McNicol attended. A wedding supper followed at the bride’s parents home, with charivaris at both homes and plans to live on the S. M. Robb farm until spring.
Illinois bids on 47 National Recovery Act projects totaling about 2.35 million dollars will be opened December 13. The scheme includes 38 paving jobs and 9 bridge jobs covering nearly 79 miles of highways, with work to employ around 5 000 people. A sixth setting for NRA projects is planned for late December.

Joseph Usry son of William and Emily Pearson was born December 4 1874 in Kinmundy township. He died December 2 1933 at his home aged 58 years 11 months 28 days. He united with the M E Church at Arnolds Chapel at age 20 and lived a Christian life. Survived by sisters Mag Fagan Corda Green Florence Morgan and Susan Jones twelve nieces and nephews an uncle Anglin Brubaker and many relatives. Funeral at 1:00 pm at home conducted by Monroe Smith with burial in Sandy Branch cemetery.
