Barnyard Manure Care And Value In Crop Returns
Barnyard manure is often wasted through leaching and fermentation when not hauled promptly. Experiments in Illinois show manure value per ton varies with soil fertility, averaging about 2.68 dollars per ton on average corn belt soil, with broader estimates of 2 to 2.50 dollars per ton elsewhere. It stresses proper handling as a valuable by-product.

Drying Hay and Grain by Hot Air Method
Prof W C Aitken of Purdue University discusses artificial drying of hay and grain using a tractor driven blower and oil heated furnace. Air is forced through a hollow stack to remove moisture in five to ten hours, enabling storage or threshing with all combustion gases vented into the stack. A spark arrester is used between the furnace and blower, and corn in a crib can be dried with an air passage.
