Tommy Towler Catches 9-Inch Catfish at Ballance Pond

Tommy Towler told the Register Office on Saturday he reeled in a 9 inch catfish from Ballance pond in the southeast part of town near his home.

East St. Louis Giants Triumph Over Patoka 9 2

The East St. Louis Giants defeated Patoka 9 to 2 on Sunday. Patoka pitcher Brooks Meador allowed twelve hits while Giant Steaveson yielded only three. Patoka's runs came on a DeLay double in the second and a Belcher homer in the third. Belcher added a single in the eighth. East St. Louis tally breakdown: two in each of the first and second innings, two in the fourth, one in the seventh, and two in the eighth. Next Sunday the Giants host Carlyle at Patoka Park.

William Godel dies at 80 in St Louis hospital

William Godel born April 8 1870 in Finkenbach Germany died July 25 1950 at Lutheran Hospital St Louis aged 80 years 3 months 22 days. Survived by four sons a daughter eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral July 27 at Altenheim Chapel and Augsburg church cemetery with Rev Fred Mueller officiating. Cox and Martin Funeral Directors in charge.

Rev and Mrs Bush of McKendree attended Patoka Methodist Church Sunday where the Rev Bush preached and conducted communion. Mrs Faye Herrera and her children from Texas are visiting the home of her parents Mr and Mrs F Fields for an indefinite stay as Mr Herrera has been called into service abroad.

Seidel Talbot Wedding in Candlelight at Sandoval

Sue Ann Seidel and Clifford Talbot wed in a candlelit July 30, 1950 ceremony at the Christian Church in Sandoval. The Bride wore white satin with seed pearl detailing and carried a Bible with gardenias. Family members and friends attended with a reception at the church basement and a short later trip to Decatur, Illinois.

A family reunion was held on July 23 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Murfin. Attendees included Mr. George Gillespie Jr and son Russell, Mr. and Mrs. George Gillespie Sr and sons of Anderson Indiana, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hutchen and daughter of Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Newlin and family of Vandalia, Mrs. Anna Lee DeRew and children of Vandalia, and Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Lansford and sons of Vernon. The day featured visiting, games, and a fried chicken dinner with ice cream and watermelon. departed at a late hour with full stomachs and happy hearts.
