Contributions to the orphanage can be sent via his company chaplain, Capt. Short, APO San Francisco. He'll return to Vietnam after Christmas, confident there is work left to do.
The San Gabriel Valley Council Boy Scouts of America will hold a leadership gathering on January 19 and 20 at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro with a 7 p.m. dinner Friday. Top district and council personnel will focus on boosting the scouting program through training, administration, and fundraising while mapping council and district goals for the year. The event will feature district chairs, commissioners, and the council’s leadership, including the council president and members of the board of directors.
Melodyland Theatre launches its 196% season tonight with Jimmy Dean and special guests The Lennon Sisters. Dean is a top country star whose singles sold millions, including Big Bad Joba. The Lennon Sisters rose to fame on Lawrence Welk. The new show runs nightly through next Sunday with two Saturday performances and two Sunday shows. Tickets are on sale at the box office and ticket agencies.
Pasadena area shows steady upturn in population from 1960 to 1967 with Pasadena rising from 116 407 to 125 709 and nearby communities like Rosemead and El Monte expanding through annexations. Countywide growth continues at about 1 7 percent annually, though at a slower pace in recent years.
Miss Saven Elaine Knudsen and Miss Jonee Llane Lampsa from Altadena return to the University of California, Santa Cruz as part of 942 new students resuming after a first quarter break. Of these, 953 are undergraduates including 672 freshmen, 45 sophomores, 172 juniors, and 13 seniors, with 30 graduates and 39 pursuing advanced degrees. The UCSC campus, opened in 1955, remains the smallest of the nine CSU campuses with Stevenson and Crown Colleges joining Cowell College on the 2000 acre site.
