Anthony P. Piatrillo of Temple City will serve two weeks of active duty training Aug 12 to 26 at Letterman Army Hospital San Francisco. He is a sergeant with the U S Army Reserve 49th General Hospital unit from Southern California led by Col Homer C Stilson M D. The hospital trains reservists year round and two weeks annually on active duty. Piatrillo joined the service in 1968 and will provide general medical and support services to patients including Vietnam casualties.

Schneider Completes Hospital Corps School Training
Schneider, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl L. Schneider of Temple City, completed the basic Hospital Corps School at the U S Naval Hospital in San Diego. The four month course trains hospital corpsmen and WAVES to assist with dressings, temperatures, and ward care and prepares for duties in physical exams, first aid, operating rooms, laboratories and X ray rooms. Ensign Jeffrey T Vernallis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel J Vernallis of San Gabriel, flew his first solo in a T 34 Mentor trainer while in flight training with Training Squadron One at Pensacola Florida. His squadron trains future Navy and Marine pilots in basile flight, instrument, and formation flying.

Brentwood Foundation funds aid and scholarships announced
The Brentwood Foundation distributes funds from the Trentwood Savings and Loan to worthy groups. Six scholarships of 200 dollars each were awarded to forty Monrovia High School seniors and two Dugrle High School seniors. Recipients will attend senior colleges as the program may expand. Monrovia Police freed three boys trapped in a county storm drain after a worker covered the exit. The boys entered through an open mandale Cove and were rescued after neighbors called authorities.

County Rosemead Storm Drain Project Agreement
County Flood Control District and the city of Rosemead reached an agreement during construction of a new storm drain system. Supervisor Frank G. Bonelli noted the district would cover portions of curb and installation costs for the second Potrero Grande unit, with the city contributing park funding. Arson Suspect Sought After Fires Near Tem ple City
Investigators seek an elderly, gray haired man linked to a series of arson efforts at Robert Heuser’s home on Temple City Blvd. A fire destroyed two cardboard outbuildings and damaged drapes and an ice chest, with estimated damage around $5000. Cathy Heuser observed the suspect near the residence. County firefighters contained the fires.
