Turkish Cypriots rioted in Nicosia and Larnaca in retaliation for the killing of a Turkish Cypriot police sergeant. In Larnaca mobs attacked Greek Cypriot shops with clubs and stones, injuring several. police dispersed the crowds as the port city of about 15,000 faced unrest.

L A Woman Found Slain in Wilshire District Home

Laura Lindsay a 62 year old secretary and divorcee was found fatally beaten at her Wilshire district bungalow. Attorney Irving Walker who employed her for 30 years discovered the scene describing a semi nude body on a living room couch and bloodstains on the bed. Death Claims Veteran Actor Guy Kibbee

Veteran actor Guy Kibbee died at the Percy Williams home in East Islip New York after more than a year of illness. Elephants Stampede in Washington Parade to Circus Grounds

A herd of 42 circus elephants stampeded in Washington as they were moved from railroad cars along East Capitol Street and Anacostia Avenue toward the Ringling Bros. show grounds at 26th Street and Benning Road. They fled a quarter mile before handlers regained control. A rider was knocked down during the scramble. The cause remains undetermined but is blamed on the younger elephants.
