Federal, state, county and local police arrested 150 suspected dope peddlers in Los Angeles during a coordinated crackdown. The operation targeted drug trafficking networks and involved multiple agencies enforcing public safety.

Summerfield said bids have been issued for 500,000 ball point pens and 500,000 refills and that the new pens should be in all post offices within six months.
The Supreme Court held that the government may compel witnesses in national security cases to testify by granting absolute immunity from prosecution. Justice Frankfurter wrote for seven to two, upholding the 1954 compulsory immunity law aimed at espionage and treason probes. Ullman, 48, faces six months for contempt after refusing to testify despite immunity.

A jewel tied to the union includes a gold watch and embroidered gown. His age is disputed by his sons who say he is older than the claimed 56.
Mrs. Ethel Clifford, 55, awoke to noises from a tavern below her apartment but could not walk unaided. With a cut telephone wire and her丈夫 asleep, she assisted her husband who restrained the intruders at gunpoint while she summoned police.
