Horse rescued after long ordeal ends in tragedy

A horse stubbed in a knee-high gully off Chaney Trail Altadena could not rise despite rescue efforts by sheriff and mounted posse. after a 17 hour wait the animal was shot. Letters from readers blamed lack of timely veterinary aid and questioned local animal care responses.

District Seven Director Runs Unopposed in Pasadena Primary

Pasadena voters learn District Seven incumbent Dr. Joseph D Messler is unopposed in the March 13 Pasadena primary. The 56-year-old physician, now medical director at Commonwealth Independent Life, seeks his first full four year term after appointment last July to the Board of City Directors. He and wife Jane reside at 120 S Hill Ave with children Margaret and Joseph D Messler Jr. He is Amherst College and Cincinnati College of Medicine graduate and has served as Army Air Force flight surgeon. He sits on multiple Pasadena boards and committees and favors redevelopment to attract business, traffic solutions, housing, and school improvements.

Pasadena PTA units oppose school bond issue

Two Pasadena PTA units openly oppose the $34 million school bond while most other units back both the bond and the tax override. Pasadena High School PTA reportedly opposed the bonds by a low margin but favored the tax override portion. The Pasadena Council of Parents and Teachers declined to disclose actual vote counts.

Sheriff Department to reorganize patrol divisions in LA County
