The Pas moves toward a senior citizens housing project funded by Kinsmen Club and local groups with an estimated cost around 100 900. To avoid annual school tax losses, a private Manitoba Legislature bill is sought to exempt municipal levy, with support anticipated during the New Year.
Enrollment in The Pas public school system reached 1 217 as of Wednesday, up 70 from the last term, while Sacred Heart School for grades 1 to 12 reported 315 pupils as of Tuesday evening, nearing full capacity.
The Pas Library calls its annual meeting for Wednesday September 12 at 7 30 p m in the Community Building. The event invites the general public to attend to support library operations and staffing. The library offers limited hours and seeks volunteers contact Mrs McRory or Mrs Jack Hone.
The local Air Cadet Squadron begins a new term on Tuesday September 11 at the Elk's Hall. The first parade is at 7 30 p.m. Boys aged 14 to 18 may join 303 Squadron by reporting there. The commanding officer is Paul Fee with assistants Jack Fisher and Gordon Turner.
The Pas hosts a Sunday double header against Flin Flon Junior All Stars at Exhibition Grounds. First pitch is at 1 00 PM and the second at 3 30 PM. Flin Flon won the 50th Anniversary Ball Tournament.
Officials confirm last Thursday hail largely limited to Rahls Island and town limits. Since August 30 rain totals near Clearwater show .57 inches to noon September. Farmers expect government leasing and eventual sale of up to a full section within the Pasquallopment project, with Premier Duff Roblin promising to raise the limit from a half to a full section during the Pas 50th Anniversary visit.
The 1963 Northern Manitoba Trapper's Festival in Canova moves forward with a new Board of Directors structure and an executive committee planning February 21 to 23. Jim Doak announces a joint meeting of the Manitoba Progressive Conservative Executive Council and five northern Riding Associations to be held in The Pas on September 15 and 16. The gathering marks northern Manitoba’s 50th boundary anniversary and recalls Sir Rodmund Roblin as premier in 1912. This is the first provincial party get-together since last November’s Winnipeg meeting.
School Board Chairman Jack Berg expects total public school enrollment to rise beyond 1 217 by week’s end. At Tuesday evening’s meeting the board reviewed enrollment data and learns teachers will present a full review tonight amid reports of classrooms housing 35 and 36 students.
Education Minister Stewart McLean arrives in The Pas to meet Kelsey School Board members about plans for a new school. He will inspect Elementary School facilities and review eight substandard classrooms as the board pursues expanded facilities and congestion relief. Board Chairman Jack Berg notes no new plans will be presented to ratepayers before next month’s municipal elections.

Work started four weeks ago but a Winnipeg telegram three weeks ago ordered a halt on the Crown land section. facilities are intended to improve landing options near Frechette's Dairy and the golf course.
Town councilor Alex Wilchowy announced town equipment will incur rental fees for all users. The public works chair said no equipment will be let out for private use outside town limits without prior agreement on established rates. The engineer was directed to enforce the policy.
