Hospital Wing Opened at St Anthony's Hospital
The $2 million Hospital Wing at St Anthony's Hospital was officially opened last Thursday morning with Honourable Rene Toupin, Minister of Health, cutting the ribbon. Sister Juliette St. Germain and Bill Harvey assisted. Toupin outlined health policy in Northern Manitoba at a noon luncheon attended by several hundred people. Bert Hayes, Hospital Chairman, praised the project and introduced two pioneers Sister Tuliette St. Germain and Bill to the gathering.

Train Blocks Crossing During C F 1 Fire
A CNR freight train blocked the entrance road crossing for about ten minutes as the local fire brigade prepared to respond to a forest site fire. About 200 grain cars halted the crossing with the end visible thirty cars back. The blaze, in a motor in the wood room, was minor and extinguished by hydrants. Dave Reid cited an overloaded bin and a malfunctioning overload tripping device as causes. The Pas fire brigade is part of the site fire notification system.

Police Evidence Yields Drug Acquittals
In Magisterial Court last Thursday special drug day, RCM Police evidence led to acquittals in two cannabis and hashish cases. William Henry Ferland and Gordon Lyle Buck faced joint cannabis charges from a March 27 apartment search. Dennis Morrisette of The Pas pleaded not guilty to possession of a restricted drug for trafficking and possession of hashish for trafficking after an incident on Fischer Avenue June 20. Crown evidence failed to convince in Morrisette’s trial, while Ferland Buck’s case ended in acquittal. They were scheduled to appear again July 29.

Resource Centre Focal Point In New Mary Duncan School
An artist's concept shows the new Mary Duncan School to be built on Third Street. The 16 400 square foot facility will serve Kindergarten to Grade 6 with about 500 students across 3/5 primary and 2/5 intermediate cohorts. It features four classroom suites around a two story resource centre and includes two new kindergarten rooms.

Area agreement signed for The Pas projects and college lab
The Pas Special Area agreement adds eight projects and programs with federal and provincial approval. The federal Department of Regional Economic Expansion will help fund study costs for four potential provincial town projects. New items include a storm sewer addition design, Keewatin Community College heavy duty mechanics lab, and Mary Duncan Elementary School plans with completion targets in spring 1972.

Pleads Guilty To Break-in Of CNR Freight Cars
Jack Wilson of The Pas appeared in Magistrate's Court on a break and theft charge related to August 16 incidents. One freight car near CNR express sheds contained about 500 dollars in goods including a camera and cigarettes. another near Western Grocers held about 10 dollars in groceries. Remanded one week for pre sentence report. Michael Zahyko changed plea to guilty on impaired driving after police stopped a car on No 10 Highway at 15 mph, with the August incident noted.

The Pas Schools Open September 7 1971
The Pas schools start September 7 with classes beginning September 8. Opening day includes two hour attendance.
