The province observes daylight saving time from late May to early September. Municipalities may extend daylight time to the last weekend of October, aligning with Winnipeg. This Saturday evening clocks revert to Central Standard Time.
The Pas will gain a local shoemaker stall on Edwards Avenue next to Tallis Taxi. Ernie Lambert of Saskatchewan is due November first to bring his equipment and set up shop, filling a long standing gap as residents previously shipped footwear repairs to Winnipeg Flin Flon or Dauphin.
The artificial ice installation is progressing well and curling begins November 10th. Men interested in the league should contact Cliff Linnen at 3-2888 or leave a name with Don Fisher at Northland Drugs.
A report describes the death of Lord Harry Salisbury, a famed mounted police figure tied to a Reed Lake tourist camp. The incident occurred between the sixteenth and seventeenth of the month on Simonhouse Road, with local owners Ted Ellicott and an unnamed narrator claiming ownership of the camp. The advance poll for the federal election will be open in The Pas on Saturday October 30 and Monday November 1. It will be at the Legion Hall from 8 A M to 8 P M both days. Voters who may be absent on election day November 8 may vote at the advance poll.
Negotiations continue between The Town of The Pas and the City of Winnipeg over a claim of 1069 dollars linked to welfare payments for a family brought from Hungary. Winnipeg argues the family, though in Winnipeg, was resident in The Pas for welfare purposes. Mayor Trager said Winnipeg could reclaim 80 percent from the province if paid now. The Pas could cover the remainder and possibly reclaim 40 percent from the Province.
The B P O Elk’s Lodge plans its annual Halloween Party this Saturday in the Elk’s Hall. Doors open at seven with prizes for best costumes in several age groups. Activities include films and treats for children ages preschool to twelve.
The Friendship Centre raffle wind up is set for Friday October 29 at 9:00 PM at The Pas Reserve Band Halls marking the end of the Centre's first phase.
The Pas Town Council formally approved a twelve month police services agreement at the last regular meeting. RCMP officials from Dauphin and Flin Flon visited The Pas and suggested adding two extra constables, with a report to follow. In 1965 an extra officer was debated and a $6600 budget item was removed after community opposition.
Damien Giordani the French Consul in Winnipeg aims to bring several consuls to The Pas for the Trappers Festival February 9 12. He has invited H W Bornemann Vaughan L Baird Kumano Okazaki A Rickenbach and others to attend the Musher's Banquet.
Campaigning heats up at Margaret Bar Collegiate in The Pas ahead of November 8 election day. 36 seats across 12 constituencies are at stake with Liberals Conservatives and two minor parties vying for votes. Jack Hyde is named as Governor General candidate for the first Parliament amid early uncertainty about his role.
