Shoemaker Heading For The Pas

The Pas will gain a local shoemaker stall on Edwards Avenue next to Tallis Taxi. Ernie Lambert of Saskatchewan is due November first to bring his equipment and set up shop, filling a long standing gap as residents previously shipped footwear repairs to Winnipeg Flin Flon or Dauphin.

The advance poll for the federal election will be open in The Pas on Saturday October 30 and Monday November 1. It will be at the Legion Hall from 8 A M to 8 P M both days. Voters who may be absent on election day November 8 may vote at the advance poll.

Negotiations Over 1069 Welfare Payment Between Town and City

Negotiations continue between The Town of The Pas and the City of Winnipeg over a claim of 1069 dollars linked to welfare payments for a family brought from Hungary. Winnipeg argues the family, though in Winnipeg, was resident in The Pas for welfare purposes. Mayor Trager said Winnipeg could reclaim 80 percent from the province if paid now. The Pas could cover the remainder and possibly reclaim 40 percent from the Province.

Town approves yearlong police agreement for seven officers

The Pas Town Council formally approved a twelve month police services agreement at the last regular meeting. RCMP officials from Dauphin and Flin Flon visited The Pas and suggested adding two extra constables, with a report to follow. In 1965 an extra officer was debated and a $6600 budget item was removed after community opposition.
