Fire Chief Tom Earley asks motorists and pedestrians to follow town traffic by laws near fires. Drivers must not approach within 200 feet of fire apparatus and buses are restricted within 200 feet. Pedestrians should stay 100 feet away unless asked to assist. He hopes voluntary compliance avoids prosecutions. CONTINUED ON PAGE 18
The Herald clarifies potato buying rules in The Pas area. Residents may visit farms to purchase potatoes but farmers may not deliver. buyers must pick up sacks directly at the farm.
Four candidates vie for federal seat in Chur chill next Monday. Liberals nominate F. L. Bud Jobin, NDP candidate Ken Mac Master, Social Credit Curt Sheilman, and Progressive Conservative Robert Bud Simpson. Polls run 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with five The Pas stations and outlying polls at Legion Hall and Christ Church Parish Hall.
Legion honors fallen Canadians and international allies on November 11 in solemn remembrance. The article recalls World War II sacrifices that secured freedom and notes ongoing scars of veterans. The Pas Legion announces Poppy Day this Saturday November 6 with Poppy taggers in force. A business district canvass is planned for Friday November 5. Remembrance Day services will be at the Lido Theatre on November 11 at 10 45 A M with fall in for the parade at Legion Hall 10 30 A M.
Students will elect their first Parliament on the same day federal voters elect Ottawa Parliament. MECI voting runs 1 to 1 30 and 4 to 4 30 Monday November 8. Chief electoral officer is Geoff Smith. Forty six seats? 36 seats are at stake, three from each classroom. CONTINUED ON PAGE 14.
A 10 year old girl reported an assault attempt near Third Street and Head Lane after leaving a LaRose 4H Club meeting at 9 15 PM. Mr John Heuchert aided the girl and described a man in a blue jacket who fled after a struggle. Police questioned several suspects but released them. no injuries reported.
Senator Paul Yuzyk will visit The Pas this Friday to campaign for Progressive Conservative candidate Bud Simpson. He will be there Friday morning to Saturday noon, then proceed to Flin Flon for election day activities.
The Pas will host three Overture Concert Association shows at one third of the original budget after a Vancouver group’s concession. The teen audience is targeted with Mitchell-Ruff Jazz Trio and Aronsons folk duo expected to draw strong interest.
Voters re-elected Mayor Harry Trager to a fourth term by a near two to one margin and kept all incumbent councillors. George Hiatt narrowly beat Ivan Taylor by 27 votes while Audrey Batchelor and Alex Wilchowy won their council seats. turnout was about 50 percent. No school board race or nominations were filed, leaving two vacancies to be filled by appointment.
Geof Smith and 41 Manitoba teachers attended a Bran don College public relations seminar. The Manitoba Teachers' Society event, sponsored by the provincial public relations committee, addressed teacher shortages pensions administration and curriculum. Donald T. McKinnon urged better parent communications and trustee cooperative efforts for future progress.
