Sargeant Cutts reports the town council ordered towing of vehicles parked on streets during winter. So far only unlicensed cars are removed, with warning that licensed cars may also be towed if owners do not move them. Cars are taken to Twin Motors and may be disposed of if not claimed per Garage Keepers Act.
The Drop-in Centre will operate in The Pas this summer with seven staff, up from two. It runs June 1 to September 14, with hours 12 noon to 10 pm early summer and 11 am to 1 am late summer, staffed by seven locals and Winnipeg students under the Opportunity For Youth program. The group plans bicycle day and collaboration with Exhibition Association and Diamond Jubilee, while funding requests total 59 504 dollars, including 8 646 for wages and facility rental.
Conservation officers report juveniles harming fish at Knapp Dam with several Northern Pike and Suckers left to die. Shoreline cleanup occurs but odor remains, prompting concern over continued damage and possible fishing area closure.

About 65 outdoor journalists and photographers head to The Pas for a western convention over the May long weekend chaired by Bill Robinson of Neepawa. Most events run at Keewatin Community College with a government banquet at the Legion Hall and a Saturday night Trappers Festival highlights jigging, goose and frog calls, and local acts from Saskatchewan and Manitoba participants.
The RCMP Town Detachment urges residents to lock doors when leaving or sleeping. Sergeant Cutts notes several complaints of intruders entering unoccupied homes. He warns intoxicated trespassers may cause nuisance rather than theft, stressing secure premises to prevent incidents.
Police report and residents describe a calmer year with limited vandalism in The Pas. Sargeant Cutts notes occasional window breakage and the rare break-in. Last Wednesday Lori Hiatt found a 3 inch hole in the plate glass front window of her confectionary store.
Miss Card of Winnipeg announced May 9 that the Day Nursery project planned for The Pas this summer has been cancelled due to lack of government funding. She said more than forty applications from The Pas students had been received for nursery work.
The Herald will be distributed later due to Victoria Day on May 22. News releases must be in by 12 noon Friday. Advertising deadline for the May 23 issue is 10 AM Tuesday for both display and classified.
