The Pool chairman Grundy faced a strange scene as a cheque for 8500 dollars was presented by Kinsmen president Bill Brageirde to settle the Kinsmen Club pledge of 10000 dollars. Jim Goodridge, ex Kinsmen president and former pool committee chair, stood nearby.
A three member delegation asked Town Council to fill drainage ditches along Cathedral Avenue. Mayor Jack Kennedy said no promises on timing as the council awaits storm sewer developments. Continued on page 12.
The Local Government District of Consol gives 3000 to the indoor swimming pool committee with a condition that district residents receive the same pool memberships as town residents. The council approves the stipulation and directs the secretary treasurer to notify the L G D of the decision.
A Turtleford Saskatchewan pow wow group offers daily dance instruction at The Pas Friendship Centre May 15 to 19. Pre schoolers 2 to 4 pm, juniors 7 to 8:30 pm, seniors 9 to 10:30 pm, with mixed genders. Friday features public group competitions 8 to 10 pm with prizes.
The Indian Band office on The Pas Reserve was completely gutted by fire last Wednesday evening. The Pas Volunteer brigade responded, arriving soon after 6 p.m. and extinguishing the blaze about an hour later. Firemen entered after removing smoke through the roof, as flames reached the attic. no chance to save the interior was reported.
Town Manager Walter Lengerke outlined two possible locations for a light industrial park. The council endorsed the area east of Connaught Avenue and south of McDonald Street near Timberland trailer court as the preferred site.
Harry Anderson and wife Katherine raise a herd of buffalo at their hobby farm two miles west of The Pas. A calf born recently is believed to be the north’s first captive birth on a private farm. The couple started with 22 buffalo moved from Interlake country after crop damage.
Fire detectors at St. Anthony's Hospital activated at 4 30 Tuesday afternoon but no fire was found after inspection. Administrator Les DeCock said the detectors trigger when heat rises 15 degrees in 30 seconds, regardless of ambient temperature, and noted the system is zoned to simplify locating the source.
The Pas Lions Club asks Town Council for permission to build a children’s playground at the Bell and William corner. The plan includes site clearing, muskeg excavation, earth refilling, low fencing plus a higher rear steel fence, and installation of equipment for ages up to ten.
