Pool Open In September

Pool chairman Harold Grundy announced the new indoor pool at Margaret Serbour Collegiate Ha will open in September if no major delays occur. He noted about 24 006 60 dollars remains to finish the project and that 40 letters have been sent to major Manitoba and Canadian companies to raise funds.

Construction Halted At Mary Duncan Elementary Over Change Orders

W. W. Construction has halted work on Mary Duncan Elementary on Third Street due to a dispute over change orders. President Peter Warkentin says engineers may deem some areas unsafe and a redesign is needed before a cost appraisal and change order. If activity does not resume this week, the dispute could go to litigation. The school aimed to finish by June 30 with a September opening if resumed.

Manitoba Education music workshop in The Pas schools

A group of 47 University of Manitoba Faculty of Education graduates led by Professor J. Redekopp conducted a fifty minute workshop in The Pas area elementary and middle schools. The program emphasizes student involvement and new teaching methods beyond traditional classroom music.

Flood warning for Carrot River to hit The Pas May first week

Water Resources warns spring floods on the Carrot River in Saskatchewan with crest expected at The Pas during the first week of May. Local resource staff predict the river will surpass the dyke by at least two feet, inundating lands between the dyke and the river and the Saskeram area. Agricultural officials urge farmers to move cattle and valuable belongings to the protected side of the dyke by today to avoid loss as conditions resemble the 19 Tac Nickel year with livestock at risk on the north bank.

Ditches in New Subdivision Spark Concern, Town Leader Says

Walter Lengerke reports residents in a new subdivision voiced worries about open ditches in front of homes. He notes a delegation asked when the ditches will be filled, promising summer or fall as funds for alarm sewers are available and once installed the ditches will be eliminated.

Festival of the Arts closes with Grand Concert

The 87th annual Festival of the Arts ends with the Grand Concert after a week of performances. Among 375 entries music dominates this year as speech entries are fewer. trophies were not presented due to no competition. The Boroshenkos fund a new senior piano scholarship and Joanne Toews wins it on her first attempt.

Labour Agreement Ratified by Lumber Workers in The Pas

Workers at the Lumber Division of The Pas Forestry Complex in Northern Manitoba voted on April 21 to ratify the new Labour Agreement between River Sawmills and the International Woodworkers of America Local 1-324. Negotiations occurred in Winnipeg from March 1 to 22 and continued in The Pas for a two day conciliation on April 18 and 13. River Sawmills reps were H. Chernoff, T. A. Collings, D. Reid and M. Vandermaelen. IWA reps were Parker, A. Friske, W. Benson and N. Barkett.
